S YMBOLS WERE VERY important in biblical times. Hezekiah was one of the kings remembered for tearing down the high places. He removed the idolatrous images and cut down the Asherah groves that had been worshipped for generations. Most significant was the image of the brazen serpent that Moses made during his time. The name of the image was Nehushtan. (See 2 Kings 18:4.) It was a pole with a snake wrapped around it. When God allowed the children of Israel to be plagued with poisonous vipers in their midst, Moses held up Nehushtan and those who looked upon it were healed. This was a remedy that God gave Moses for that season.
I can easily relate this to spiritual acts today. God may tell someone to pray over a gallon of water and have a sick person drink it for their healing. The power in the act is not the gallon of water but the obedience to God. When the prophet Elisha told Naaman to dip in the river seven times, Naaman could not get all of the sick people in his family to go to the same river. It was a prophetic act specifically given for Naaman.
The problem comes when people start worshipping gallons of water or rivers of healing. They commit the sin of worshipping created things rather than the Creator. They step into the realm of works of the flesh. Witchcraft is a work of the flesh. The Bible declares that in the last days many will fall away to lying signs and wonders. Those who want to know the truth must understand the difference between witchcraft and prophetic acts ofobedience. When King Saul sinned against God, the prophet told him that obedience was better than sacrifice. The passage went on to explain that rebellion was just like witchcraft. (See 1 Samuel 15:2223.)
It is the nature of men to want something they can relate to the sense realm (taste, touch, smell, sight, hearing) to deal with the issues of life. Gods Word says that we walk by faith and not by sight (2 Cor. 5:7). It also tells us that what we see is temporary but what we cannot see lasts forever (2 Cor. 4:18). When Moses did not move fast enough for the people, they could not wait on God but instead built a golden calf (something they could see). Since that time idolatry has manifested itself greatly through symbols or things that men have fashioned to represent the desires of their hearts.
In the example of Hezekiah destroying the brazen serpent (Nehushtan), he knew that the people had been looking to this idol for miracles since the time of Moses. It was a generational idol, and it still is today. The medical symbol for America is a pole with a snake on it, a modern-day Nehushtan! Hezekiah told the people to turn their hearts back to God. He said that the idol was only a brazen trifle and was not worth the gold it was made out of.
This chapter highlights symbols that relate to occult (secret) activity and the demonic. Since the beginning of time messages have been transmitted through symbols. We live in a time when fetishism (the ministry of demons through objects) is plaguing the lives of unknown victims. If you do not believe me, take a look at the life of Mosess successor, Joshua. He was a mighty conqueror until he was defeated by a few objects in his camp. (See Joshua 7.) I pray that you will pay attention to the symbols in this chapter and become sensitive to the accursed things that may be plaguing your life. Remember, there is a message in every symbol.
Before I take you into the realm of occult symbolism it is important that you understand spiritual contamination.
Spiritual Contamination
Spiritual contamination is when a person, place, or thing has been tainted or influenced by something that causes that person to deteriorate spiritually. It is as if something has rubbed off on that person that changes his or her life for the worst. Spiritual contamination is the counterfeit of what the Holy Spirit wants to do in our lives. He wants to come in contact with us and change our lives for better. A natural man, or someone who walks by sight and not by faith, will not get what I am saying. I pray that the scales and the veils will be removed from your eyes so that you can have a revelation of the spirit realm, which encompasses both good and evil. Spiritual contamination is when a person has been touched by something that is evil.
Terms and Definitions
alter ego
The conjuring of a familiar spirit to help a person do what they cannot naturally do or to become who they are not in the natural.
amulet
An object, usually in the form of jewelry, that is worn or kept on a person for magical powers or protection from evil.
caging incantations
A fetish that is used as a point of contact to cage or control the mind of a person. The fetish may be made as the symbol of a tic-tac-toe design or a five-point star and two circles or coffin-like box with a persons name. It is placed on the persons property, business, or work area. This kind of bewitchment blinds or cages the mind spiritually so that the persons discernment is off. They tend to follow the leadership of people who do not mean them well and turn against people who are really for them.
cauldrons
Boiling pots used for witchcraft.
come-to-me oil
A type of love potion that is worn as a perfume or cologne by a person desiring to lure another into a love trap, causing the person to be uncontrollably under their spell. The fragrance demonically sets the atmosphere to hypnotize its victim into a strong infatuation for the wearer of the oil.

Animals used as sacrifices for witchcraft purposes.
demonic feeding

fetish
An object directly connected to witchcraft because of the demonic power attached to it (charm, amulet, juju, or lucky piece). A fetish can also be a fixation or preoccupation with a person, place, or thing; a type of idolatry.
hag stone
A naturally perforated stone used as an amulet against witchcraft, also known as an adder stone. These stones are called hag stones because they are also used by witches who are referred to as hags. Witches use these stones for rituals and magic spells for white (so-called good magic) and black (evil) magic.
ley lines
A demonic imaginary line placed around a designated area where demons are assigned to wage territorial warfare within the perimeters.
