The Teachings of Muhammad

For more than 30 years, Messenger Elijah Muhammad has been teaching the so-called Negroes of America on the proper foods to eat to improve their mental power, physical appearance, for prevention of illness, curing of ailments

and prolonging life.

Before it became a fad, Messenger Muhammad advocated eating whole wheat and staying away from bleached, white enriched flour. He has taught and maintained fats should be reduced and eliminated from the diet. He has warned about the dangers of eating from cans and wax cartons. He has cautioned the so-called Negroes to take better care in selecting food to eat.

Mr. Muhammad has stated the so-called Negro should eat the young, fresh green vegetables. He has stated the lima bean, black-eyed peas and other field beans do not have food values good for the body and that they are very hard

and damaging to the digestive tract.

For more than 30 years, the Muslim home has stressed the baking of foods and not frying. He has cautioned his followers to be conscious of weight. Penalties are exacted from Muslims found overweight.

All of Messenger Muhammad's teaching on foods and weight have been studied by white scientists, doctors and dieticians. Finally, 1959, actuaries released new average weight charts for men and women. It was no mere

coincidence that their findings coincide with what Messenger Muhammad had been teaching. It was practically a verbatim transcript of the papers they confiscated when the federal government arrested him in 1942.

This was followed up with a featured story on weight in the U.S. News & Word Report, Nov. 2, 1959, which was condensed in Reader's Digest, Feb, 1960. Their story, too, followed what Messenger Muhammad has been teaching for 30 years, that is, except the portions which advise eating pork, Coronet magazine, also in Feb., 1960, published an article on weight and new weight charts, according to the plan of Mr. Muhammad. And, in the April 11, 1960 edition, the U.S. News & World Report again reported a

detailed account on the foods to eat. As one Muslim said, They really listened to Mr. Muhammad, but they mixed it up and added to it. Everyone would do well to read this book by Mr. Muhammad on the proper foods to eat. His

advice adds to your life.

GUIDE TO PROPER EATING
Chapter 1: A RETURN TO LONG LIFE

Eat to live to bring about a return toperfection and long life; like Noah and Methuselah, who livednearly 1000 years of our calendar year (containing 365 1/4days).

LONG LIFE IS NOT enjoyed by eating foodwhich will shorten and destroy life. Under this white race ofpeople, we were not taught how to eat to live. They, the whitedevils, are not here to teach us, the Lost and Found members of theAboriginal Nation, to live a long life. They were put here to cutshort our lives, and for the last 6000 years they have done so.

Eating as beasts eat (Holy Ouran) allduring the day and night will kill us at an early age. Very few ofthe white race have regularity about their eating habits. Ourstomachs are worn out in a few years, due to the continuation oftrying to digest the food that we eat, some being of the type offoods which we should not dare put into our stomachs.

Poison drinks along with a mixture of goodand poison foods have shortened our lives, on the average of about63 1/2 years at the present time. This is a long way from the600-800-900 years of life of our fathers.

WE ARE A LONG WAY off from the life of thepeople on Mars, Who Allah in the Person of Master Fard Muhammad, toWhom Praise is due forever, taught me, lived an average life of theequivalent of 1200 years of our Earth calendar. This in fact hasbeen the Original Nation's calendar year since God created theHeavens and the Earth, so teaches the Holy Quran.

If you want a beautiful appearance, eat theproper food and eat one meal a day, then eat one meal every otherday. Your children may be able to eat two meals per week. This willput them into centuries as Noah and Methuselah.

Chapter 2: HOW TO KEEP FOOD FROM HURTINGUS

I thank Allah in the Person of Master FardMuhammad, to Whom Praises are due forever, for bringing to us lifeand light so that we may be able to enjoy life, and to enjoy thatlife longer than we have previously enjoyed it. Many years could beadded to our lives if we only knew how to protect our lives fromtheir enemies. As He (meaning Master Fard Muhammad) said to me,food keeps us here; it is essential that we eat food which givesand maintains life. That same food destroys life. Therefore, tokeep this food from destroying our lives, we must protect our livesas well as we possibly can from the destruction of food. If we eatthe proper food, and eat at the proper time, the food will keep usliving a long, long time. Eating three and four times a day is toyour stomach as dripping water is to a stone or iron. The drippingwater will eventually wear the stone and iron away. But, just tolook at the water, it does not appear powerful enough in itsdripping to wear the stone and iron away. It is the same with food;we continuously put it into our stomachs to be digested andeventually it will destroy the stomach. If we let our stomachs resta while and gain strength, they will last longer in doing a job ofdigesting food for us.

EAT ONE MEAL a day and eat the food thatwill not harm you so quickly. You do not have to go into a longdetailed knowledge of what foods you have to eat, because the wrongfood has already been pointed out to you, foods such as pig, nuts,white flour, meats (of course, we eat some meats), the wrong kindof peas, the wrong kinds of breads, half-cooked breads, too manystarchy foods, and too much sweets.

All of these foods destroy us. Bread shouldbe cooked thoroughly and slowly, and if you have plenty of time,cook the bread two or three times and then eat it. Meat should alsobe cooked two or three times. Eating great meals of highly seasonedand sugared pastries is definitely not good for us. They mostsurely will take years of our lives away. You may eat some sweets,but do not make an entire meal of sweets and eat them every day.Fruit is good for us, we should eat plenty fruits. To live a longtime, eat once every 24 hours or once every 48 hours, if you areable to do so. But, if you have heavy, manual work to do, do nottry to eat once every two or three days. And, if you eat once aday, you should fast every month for two or three days. By doingthat, there will be no poison left in the body at the end of a yearto make you sick even one hour.
