All through his early life David Hoffmeister was known for questioning beliefs rather than accepting conventional answers. He was inspired to seek spiritual enlightenment and in 1986 he encountered A Course in Miracles. He recognized the Course as the tool he sought to help him transform his mind. As he read it, David found that the Voice of Jesus in the Course supported him in his deep examination of concepts and assumptions. Jesus became David's internal teacher, answering his every question, and guiding him in the day-to-day management of his life and relationships.

David studied the Course with passionate intensity for several years and attended many Course study groups. The Voice of Jesus provided David with discernment about writings and teachings. Then the Voice of Jesus began to speak through David with authority. People began to refer their spiritual questions to him. David had several retreat experiences during which he was able to free his mind from ego chatter and enter into deep silence. It was in this manner that he ultimately experienced Enlightenment.

In 1991 David was guided to travel around the United States and Canada to share his understanding of A Course in Miracles . He followed Jesus' instructions to become as a child, depending completely on the Holy Spirit for transportation, money, shelter, food and the words he spoke. David conveys a deep sense of peace, love and joy to people in Course gatherings, churches, spiritual groups and holy encounters. The Voice of Jesus told David, Freely you have received; freely give. Thus, David has never charged for his time or his teaching. He gives his teaching materials away and is supported only by love offerings.

David has become a living demonstration of the principles of A Course in Miracles :

God's will for me is perfect happiness.
I am sustained by the Love of God.
I will step back and let Him lead the way.
I am the light of the world.

In 1996 David was guided to establish the Peace House in Cincinnati, Ohio. It became a place of meditation and a place where he could welcome those desiring to go deeply within the mind to discover the Christ.

Holy Spirit guided David to acquire computers and learn Internet technology. The result was the creation of the website, www.awakening-mind.org, which offers many resources related to A Course in Miracles and the metaphysics of Christ. Always a lover of music and seeing that it was another path to God, David set up a number of Music Pavilions on his website highlighting artists who share spiritual ideas through music. Also available on the site are video clips of his interviews, audio recordings of gatherings and teaching sessions, searchable archives, and writings.

David opens his mind to Holy Spirit and responds to questions on www.groups.yahoo.com/group/AwakeningInChrist.

The Foundation for the Awakening Mind is a non-profit organization that coordinates the ministry and handles donations.

The material in this book has been collected from David's e-mail messages, website postings and transcripts of his gatherings and workshops. It offers a roadmap inward to Heaven through forgiveness, as taught in A Course in Miracles . The Kingdom of Heaven is within. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

The Course often speaks about its aim; not seeking for the light, God, or Truth, but for true forgiveness, the undoing of the ego and its thought system. Its primary focus is the Atonement, which is complete forgiveness, rather than God. God is. But the blocks to Love's awareness seem to obscure that Reality.

The theology is presented to the learner in order to help the learner to distinguish between illusions and truth so that the blocks to Love's awareness can be removed. It is not the purpose of the Course to make any words special, religious or sacred. Its only purpose is to give the split mind the tools to choose the Holy Spirit by seeing what is false, therefore healing the split.

The perceiver learned the perceptual realm of time and space, and now time and space will be used to unlearn. True religion is found not in the word, or a sacred text; it is found in the undoing of the belief that sacredness is found in form.

Beloved One,

There is nothing left to seek for in this world when it can be exchanged for another one. No thought of gain or loss, winning or losing, success or failure ever had any meaning. Fantasy is not real and dreaming is not Being One. You are ready to awaken to Oneness. And as you awaken the whole world awakens as well. For the world was never more than a misperception. As perception becomes whole, the single mind sees only wholeness. At last you are ready to see with Inner Vision, and you realize that physical sight was nothing but the illusion of being in the dark. The Light has come and it is time to rejoice! It is time!

Teaching and learning true forgiveness is being aware that one is never upset by anything but erroneous thoughts, and that those erroneous thoughts can be released. True forgiveness is the release of all hurts, grievances and grudges that block the awareness of the Divine Love that is God-given and exists in everyone and everything. True forgiveness is releasing all anger, hatred, guilt and fear by seeing that they came from an error, a mistaken belief, in forgetting the Love of God. Living and extending inner peace is the natural result of true forgiveness, for when error has been laid aside and a healing Correction accepted in its place, peace prevails. To extend peace, one must be peaceful. To teach peace, one must learn it for oneself. No one can offer a gift they do not already possess. Likewise, peace of mind cannot be found outside one's own mind, for it depends not on the world. Peace comes from God and is a natural extension of God. Therefore prayer and meditation are advocated as means to inner peace and harmony. Religion is the experience of inner peace. Education, which is the unlearning of falsity, is but a means of coming to the experience of inner peace.
