CHAPTER 1
Are You Frustrated?
I ts happened again. You cant believe it. He fell off the wagonagain and there you are sitting in your car trying to decide if you should just go get a hotel for the nightagain or wait it out for a while. Hell eventually slow down and pass out on the couch.
The reality is youre married. You made a vow to your Heavenly Father and your husband all those years ago. You admit that you had an inkling there were issues before you said, I do. How could you have known it would escalate to this? You know God is going to use all this turmoil for good, for His glory.
But when? When will he hit his bottom? When will he turn to you, Lord? If only he loved me more than the bottle. How can I possibly survive his drunken tirade one more time, let alone for the rest of my life?
Lord, what can I do? Please give me the hope that this is not how I will live out my life. What can I do or say that will make him stop drinking or at least stop treating me like Im the worst piece of crap!?
God loves you and He does not want you to live like this for the rest of your life. He wants your husband to treat you with kindness and respect. He wants you to have peace in your home.
You are about to be introduced to keys that will unlock the big doors that have been blocking you from having the promises God has made to youhaving His love, peace, His Joy, and abundance no matter how your husband shows updrunk, not drunk, or wanting to drink. These keys will be yours from now on and no matter what he does. Your husband wont be able to steal your connection to these gifts.
This Book Is for You:
- If your husband makes you feel defeated, angry, and even hopeless sometimes.
- If you are having that same tired argument with your husband over and over again; he just wont listen to you; he wont do things like he used to.
- If he is angry all the time and youre embarrassed because you handle him so poorly, not like a Christian.
- If you feel Gods word and prayer is not helping.
- If you go a long time without touching, or talking.
- If you dont spend any time with each other.
- If you are punishing him with the silent treatment or he is punishing you with the silent treatment.
- If you feel disrespected; you get the sense he doesnt love you and at times he hates you.
- If you cant sleep at night as your mind just wont stop thinking.
- If you just dont understand how Gods word applies to your situation.
- If you feel something is blocking you from getting what you want or from hearing from God to know what you should do.
- If you would like to respond like Jesus would to your alcoholic husband.
- If you would like to transform the nasty parts of your relationship.
Lord, Please Make Him Stop Drinking will give you the tools you need to know exactly what you need to do to make your marriage survivable until God transforms it.
Its Not a Coincidence
Heres what I know: you wouldnt be reading this book if God hadnt put it in your hands. Its hard to seek help and advice about an alcoholic husband. If you read this book and make an ongoing effort to learn and practice whats in it, then youll have exactly what you need to change what he says and how often he gets away with it for rest of your life, all the while being a collaborator with your best buddy, Jesus.
You have a choice here between living with the frustration of being a victim to his drinking cycles, allowing him to erode your self-esteem or living with the victory of Christ in your heart to change your marriage.
This information centers around your communication with Christ and applying Gods Word so that when your husband shows up drunk, he meets Jesus in you instead of you. Most twelve step programs start by admitting you are powerless. I had two counselors tell me I should get a divorce. Maybe its because its the easier path, but Ive come to know that the Power of Jesus and the wisdom of His Word transforms crappy disrespectful drunken conflict into understanding, love, and peace.
You have read inspirational stories and self-help books, gone to counseling or Al-Anon, maybe talked to your pastor and confided in your friends, and fasted. You have prayed and prayed, read Gods Word over and over again. You know the answer is in there because youve experienced His transformation. He has rescued you and synchronized circumstances that made things work out in amazing ways. Everything that youve experienced has had to have happened before this book got to you so that it could make the impact in your heart it needed to.
Lots of Christian women wallow in despair for so long theyre depressed, their backs are killing them, disease has set in, or they turn to another man, or to food, to religion or work. We think, Lord, why does it have to be like this?
Its taken me a long time to grab hold of all the Keys to the Kingdom that you are about to learn. Ive been working with clients and teaching these keys since 2007. From my years of being married to an angry alcoholic and trying to apply my faith to the problem, Ive learned that I can change the circumstances and people around me. Christ did. And you are about to, too!
God knows you tried. If your husband could have been changed with all the stuff you know and all the stuff youve done up to this point, surely, he would have stopped drinking by now.
I came to understand all that experience was necessary. God was refining me like a silversmith refines silver.
He will sit as a smelter and purifier of silver.
Malachi 3:3a
Our Silversmith carefully holds the silver in the center of the fire where the flames are hottest in order to burn away all the impurities. The Silversmith must not only stay in front of the fire the whole time, but He must keep His eyes on the silver the entire time because if the silver is left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed. The moment our Silversmith sees His reflection in the purified silver it is immediately removed from the fire. Take comfort knowing that He has His eyes on you right now. He is holding you. He knows you are in pain, frustrated, and confused about all this turmoil youve had to endure.
