Praise for Yoga for Transformation
In Yoga for Transformation, Gary Kraftsow writes elegantly about Yoga, a subject he knows well and loves. He expands our awareness from the narrow view of Yoga as posture to the broader and deeper understanding of Yoga as a whole system of health and self-awareness. I especially like the section on breathing.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
GARY KRAFTSOWS interest in the spiritual dimension of life was awakened at a very young age. His connection to Yoga and the spiritual traditions of India was strengthened through his studies at Colgate University, where he graduated with honors. At the age of nineteen, he traveled to Madras to meet T. K. V. Desikachar and T. Krishnamacharya, initiating a link to Viniyoga that has become his lifelong dedication.
Gary has taught Yoga and has practiced Yoga therapy since 1976. In 1983 he completed a masters program in psychology and religion at the University of California, Santa Barbara, focusing his study on health as a paradigm for spiritual transformation. In 1988 Gary received the Viniyoga Special Diploma, recognizing his ability to train teachers and therapists in this lineage.
Garys twenty-eight-year relationship with this teaching lineage, and his deep knowledge of and respect for its precious roots, are the foundation for his unique ability to translate and communicate Yoga in a modern Western context as an educator, consultant, and therapist. Gary founded the American Viniyoga Institute, through which he offers in-depth training programs for teachers and therapists, as well as retreats and seminars in all aspects of Yoga. His first book, Yoga for Wellness: Healing with the Timeless Teachings of Viniyoga, continues to be discovered and appreciated by Yoga students and teachers, health professionals, and researchers from around the world.

Our good and true personal and spiritual friend
When I first met Gary in 1974 in Chennai, India, he was nineteen years old and a student at Colgate University. Gary took sana lessons as part of the India study program at the University. Somehow, his relation with me clicked, and in spite of the many options he hadhe was a very good student at Colgatehe chose to study Yoga and decided to become a Yoga teacher at a time when Yoga was hardly recognized in the West. We have met every year since then. He went through many obstacles, and the way he evolved step by step to become a good Yoga teacher is, for me, a testament to his conviction in the strength and value of Yoga. I am proud to be his friend.
