C ongratulations on purchasing The Teen Girls Anxiety Survival Guide, and thank you for doing so.

To the teenager facing anxiety issues,

I know what it feels like to be anxious, even with the most mundane things of life. Anxiety comes uninvited, especially during those moments when we least want them to. Anxiety can be crippling. Your teenage years are when you are going through so many new experiences almost every day, and that itself is a very daunting thing to do. On top of that, being anxious and feeling pressured to do everything perfectly takes away all the joy. But dont you worry there is a way out of this toxic cycle. Its time you take control of your life and stop anxiety from ruining all those special moments. And in this book, you will learn how. I know what you are thinking now there is no way I can make it to college with this anxiety. Believe me Ive been there. But if you want, you can come out of your situation just the way I did. And through this book, I will be right there beside you all along.

To the parents of teenagers facing anxiety issues,

I know you might be feeling helpless at times seeing your child go through anxiety issues all on their own, and you wonder what you could do to help them. Trust me, even though you feel you could do nothing, your support and love can help them to a great extent. Dont be too hard on them, and dont push them into a toxic cycle of self-blame. Instead, it is your duty to make them feel at ease. Let them know that anxiety is natural and that they will get through it one day at a time. Be honest with them. For example, you can talk to them about what they are going through, and you can encourage them to take part in things that will make them happy. Reassure them that being anxious doesnt mean the end of the world and that they can still come out of it. Remind them about all the positive things in life and urge them to spend quality time with their friends and also with family members. Approach every conversation with empathy so that they dont feel misunderstood. As they read this book and try to deal with their anxiety, you can gently check in with them from time to time to see how they are doing. There might be days when they are not doing so well, and you will have to remind them that its okay. They cannot overcome anxiety in a single day. Tell them that its a process and them taking the first step towards it is in itself a huge achievement.

There are plenty of books on this subject on the market; thanks again for choosing this one! Every effort was made to ensure it is full of as much useful information as possible, please enjoy!

Chapter 1: Why Do You Experience Anxiety?
    Picture 12

S tress and anxiety are two of the most common issues that people face today and especially in teenagers. Some are of the opinion that a little stress can be beneficial for you at times, say when you have a deadline to meet and that slight tension or stress that you are feeling will push you in the right way to get your work done in time. But that being said, when this very stress looms large over you, making you feel so uncomfortable that it renders you unable to make any decisions or to think wisely, then it is a serious problem. Such stress is seriously damaging for any person, be it of any age, and it should not be neglected. Your teenage years are crucial because they help shape up your character as this is the time when you venture out, meet new people, have new adventures and experiences, and gather new information. These are the years when you get to know yourself more, and you start to come out of your shell slowly to meet the world outside.

Needless to say, life during your teenage years will provide you with a host of opportunities, and at the same time, it will provide you with challenges. As these are the years you will be new to facing such situations without prior experience; naturally, you will feel more scared and vulnerable. Everything will seem bigger than they actually are, even your problems. There will be more than enough moments when you will feel restless, angry, irritated, frustrated, and scared. Along with experiencing all the good, new and exciting things, you will also feel those that are not so pleasant. So, it is natural for you to be under a lot of stress and anxiety. Every person can have a different reason to feel anxious.

What you need to understand at the beginning is that what you are feeling is valid. Just because someone else is not feeling it does not mean that you feel it is not justified. That is why you first need to accept what you are feeling and not disregard them at any cost. This is important as only then will you be able to deal with them responsibly and maturely. In this chapter, I will take you through some of the reasons why teenagers like yourself feel anxiety and some of the common types of teenage anxieties that people face so that it helps you understand your situation better.
