Intro to the Soul
W ho am I? I believe this is a question that burns in the hearts and minds of so many people in the pursuit to know God. I also believe in order to understand who you are and what youre here for you must first know God. Now of course, there is a general mission statement for mankind that is hard wired in all of us who are even just a little churched. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the Earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the Earth (Genesis 1:27-2, King James Version). This is a basic explanation of who you are and what youre here for, but God also has a personal plan for your life and who better to describe the purpose of a product than its creator?
That is why it is your duty in life to get to know God, not religion, church or your familys tradition. To know yourself you must have an intimate relationship with the one who created you. But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul (Deuteronomy 4:29). Now you see in your seeking, the Bible says that you will find Him and all the answers to your questions about life, but what is interesting to me is where it says, [] with all my soul. Where is our soul? Well, before I get into that, let me explain your set up. You are first spirit being, you live in a body, and possess a soul. Now your soul is your thoughts, your will and your emotions.
So, when God says I should seek Him with all my soul that provides the approach that we will use in this book to understand, uproot and untie soul ties. On our journey through this book, make it your business with everything in you to know God, thus getting to know yourself. Otherwise, why are you here? To know God is to love Him, thus youre able to love others correctly. Now I say this because history and society has shown us that the word love has been used more than tissue and has been valued as such, consider some of the things tissue and the word love are used for, and then how theyre disposed of directly after. But, that is not how God intended for that word to be used. With this book, we will not only learn what true love really is but, well learn how to love and how to untie ourselves from the bondage of false love, hurt, and disappointment.
I decided to write this book for several reasons. It started as a message I preached at my church and then later to college students. When I saw the reaction and feedback from so many people, I was encouraged to do it. Another reason is that I have always been in pursuit to discover who I am and ultimately what I will be. In the past, Ive tried to do this through my music, but it only exposed how broken I truly was. It wasnt until my most recent work, an album called Thrilla, and in songs, such as My Life Rated R and Dont Do It, that I realized a four-minute song doesnt do my issues justice. You can find out the other reasons if I come to your city and speak about the book. (Lol). But all in all, people are hurting and continue to replay the pain of their past due to soul ties. I feel I owe it to myself, my future, and my generation to help them untie those things that binds them to unnecessary pain. And so do you!
I remember in grade school they taught us about our five senses: touch, taste, smell, hear, and sight. I learned later in life that these are the gates to our soul. It is by these means that we interact with the world and allow things to enter us. Thats why it is vital to a human being to understand the importance and power of these senses and most of all to protect them with all diligence, as written in Proverbs 4:23, Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. So, in its simplest form, your soul houses the characteristics that make up who and why you are, your thoughts, your will, and your behavior. It is your inner life, the seat of your emotions, and the center of your personality.
Phase One
Understanding Soul Ties
What Is a Soul Tie?
N ow that we know what our soul is and how it works, lets get into this term soul tie. Now when I first heard this phrase it was from the mouths of church folks. Other than using context clues from the conversation, I knew it had something to do with relationships but didnt really understand what it meant. When I preached on it, I discovered it wasnt in the Bible, yet the concept of it was.
A soul tie is the joining or knitting together bonds of a relationship. They can either be godly and bring blessings to your life or ungodly ones and bring pain, hurt, and destruction. Ive chosen to deal with the ungodly ones and then show you how to overcome them. The concepts I will deal with in this book will help you not only with the toxic relationships but also with detoxing the poison that affects your growth and the future God has promised for your life.
Now let me tell you before you even get started with this book, it will expose some things you dont want to face, but the only way you can heal is to be real. Be honest with yourself. Identify yourself and make the proper adjustments to be free from the negative soul ties in your life.
Now, lets begin our journey to being free.
Friendships, Kinships, and Skinships
I want to kick off this book with what I believe to be the three most important relationships you will have in your lifetime. I also believe these three types of relationships are the back drop, and often times you will find yourself in a soul tie with one, if not all three. In life, you will encounter soul ties in your friendships, kinships, and skinships. These three important relationships affect every area of your life. That is why it is so critical to manage and maximize all three relationships for the health of your life. Lets establish a true definition for all three and identify the roles they play in your lives. In order to rectify a thing, we must identify a thing.
Friendships
A friend is someone who you know well, are fond of, is a sympathizer and a supporter. It is a person who is on the same side in a struggle. Wow! Im already getting goose bumps. Why? Well when you mind a thing, you define a thing. In other words, whatever you give attention to you give power to. Anything you give power to earns the crown of a title.
So, you see, Ive never known the definition of friend, until I started this book. As I look at the meaning of it, I already see a criteria that a lot of my so-called friends do not meet and you probably do too. Lets break down these qualities, and you appraise if your friend meets these standards.
- Know well- To know someone is to grow with them. It isnt just about time but grind. You never know whats truly in a person until its tested. Thats why we shouldnt be so quick to give that title to people when we havent identified the true value of the name weve given them. Some people are just label freaks in order to just give out titles without them being earned, just to make themselves look socially successful. When the truth of the matter is they end up getting embarrassed because that
