The SASSY-festo
Just so you know, as controversial as this may sound, I really struggle with the f word. I dont know if its the negative connotations and stereotypes that have come with it over the years bra burning (I would NEVER burn a bra, those bad boys are freakin expensive and far too pretty), man-hating (I HEART men A LOT) and the whole un-feminine thing (I REALLY love heels) but whatever it is, rightly or wrongly, the term feminist just doesnt sit right with me. It might just be that I dont really like labels in general, I especially dislike the ones found in dresses, mainly because so many women feel the need to measure their self-worth based on the number they find on it. In fact, the only label Ill ever be willing to accept is that Im SASSY.
An always-learning, always creating, woman of awesome.
A feisty, emotive, love-hard woman in my total power who has amazing sex, has fears and insecurities but meets them head on, crushes on my own reflection in the mirror, is honest and real which means sometimes, Ill mess up, oh, and is able to wear MAC make-up rather fabulously, obv.
Now, another thing you need to know about me is that Im often accused of being a bit fluffy. And thats cool, because, do you know what? I am. And its taken me a while, but now Im totally unapologetic for that. I have a penchant for boy bands, I meditate in a leopard print-slanket and tiara, I love pretty things, especially Vivienne Westwood shoes, I paint my nails every evening and I totally heart the colour pink. But, Im also a kick-ass businesswoman, a deeply spiritual thinker and well Im complex. I love to learn about the stars and the wonders of the universe AND I love to watch E! Entertainment , I fight tirelessly for the rights of girls and women to have all the information they need to make informed decisions about their lives AND I interview popstars and celebrities. I care passionately about the self-development of women AND I love kissing boys. I am a mass of fabulous contradictions.
Now, theres no hard-and-fast rules to actually being SASSY, its totally YOU-nique to you, but just so you know, once your SASSY superpowers have been unleashed, itll be really hard NOT to want to do all of the following, so why resist?
Dont diss on fellow members o lady-kind we need to love, support and nurture each other, NOT bitch, compete and draw red rings around each others wobbly bits in trash mags.
Take responsibility for your own happiness and joy quota Its up to you, and only you, with a little help from moi, obv., to awaken your SASSY superpowers, learn about them and then use them like a super-hero-girl to do seriously good super-hero-girl stuff in the world. Lets not blame boykind for absolutely everything, eh?
Be a tigress, seek pleasure this life is way too short NOT to do the things you heart. When you know who, or what, makes your belly do front flips and your heart skip a beat, chase it, enjoy it, fully indulge in it, give thanks for it, and then lick your lips in complete satisfaction. Life is yummo.
Embrace your contradictions and most importantly, dont apologise for them Its really okay to indulge in the work of Anais Nin and Jackie Collins. You can be feisty and fabulous and emo and fearful in equal measures. Its the beauty o being you and you are a beauty, just so you know.
Go where there are no paths and make your own killer-heel-shaped footprints I love nothing more than to read how a student with zilcho money can go on to make over 90,000 a year by blogging outfit ensembles, but if no one has done what you want to do, dont let that stop you. Trail blaze you can do it, use your superpowers!
Talk about ALL aspects of being a girl in this world - and that involves dropping our lil miss perfection masks and having frank, deep and open conversations about messing up, being afraid, sex, masturbation, orgasms, passions and fantasies too go there, g-friend I dare you!
Embrace all the things that make you completely YOU-nique because seriously, fitting in is really rather boring. Embrace and totally love-up all your crazy habits and collections, your penchant for watching NCIS (admit it, LL Cool Js dimples are hot, non?) your work, your relationship, your slightly out-there vocab, the spiritual practices you dig being SASSY is about being YOU. Without the fear of ridicule, because as Dita Von Teese once said, only mediocrity is free from ridicule so dare to be different! High fives to that, Miss D!
