J. Donald Walters (19262013) founded and led the worlds largest network of intentional communities and oversaw the establishment of five schools, the well-known East West Bookshop chain, three publishing houses, three world-renowned retreat centers, and a number of other small businesses, all of which continue to thrive and grow. He has composed over 400 pieces of music and written over 140 books, which have sold 4 million copies worldwide and are translated into 29 languages.

It has been twenty-eight years now since J. Donald Walters wrote the first edition of Education for Life. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Walters created the Education for Life Foundation. Since its inception, this foundation has had the opportunity to create a living laboratory for the values brought forth by this book. It has provided seminars for hundreds of educators throughout the world, established three Education for Life schools, and observed the fruits of a balanced education and its effect on children. The results are proven and as convincing as the philosophy. Children who have gone through the school system have learned and practiced how to live in a positive, balanced way. Experience has shown that by giving children the tools and understanding to make right choices in life, we can lead them to lasting happiness.

The author has extensively rewritten the book for this second edition, clarifying the exposition and introducing new material that provides futher practical foundations for educators.
