Get Wise
A few months ago, my wife and I were on our way to Snap Fitness to work out, but I needed to stop at the office to pick up something that I kept forgetting.
Its always dangerous for me to stop at the office when nobodys there because it means I have to disarm the alarm; it becomes even more dangerous when I leave my glasses and phone at home.
I unlocked the front door, and the console started beeping, telling me I had thirty seconds, so I hit the code. But it didnt work. I entered the code again, and again it failed. (I later realized I was trying to enter my garage door code.)
Times up.
The alarm started blaring, and I was in full panic mode because I had no phone and couldnt see. So I ran out to the car to use my wifes phone, but shed left her phone at home as well. I knew within minutes wed be confronted by the police, and I hoped to avoid that.
I am the senior pastor and sort of in charge, so when Laurie said, What are we gonna do? I said, We gotta get out of here before the cops come!
Youre just gonna leave? she said in disbelief.
I jumped in the car and said, What else can we do?
We sped out of the parking lot with the sound of the alarm still blaring loudly behind us. Fortunately, when we arrived at the gym, one of my colleagues was there, and she had a phone in her purse, so we quickly dialed security and called off the attack dogs.
I dont know about you, but I need all the help I can get, because left to my own devices, Im a disaster. (And thats just with easy stuff like alarms.) If I tried to navigate my marriage, a couple of kids, conflict, money, and major decisions at work all on my own without Gods wisdom, Id be a divorced, unemployed, angry little bald guy. But Im not those things, at least not the divorced, unemployed, and angry part.
