I have always disliked this part of a book. To begin with, it makes me nervous. It conjures visions of the author sitting at a desk, crafting this page while beads of perspiration form on their brow as they try to recall all the friends, family members, professionals, and faithful pets who stuck by them through the writing of their book. So many people and so little ink ...

And then I wonder how many times after a book has gone to print, an author realized they failed to thank their auntie for the cookies she baked that kept them going on a sugar high through the final week of edits. The author would be chagrined, Auntie would be crushed, there would be no way to make it right, and there would probably be no more cookies.

Another area of acknowledgement angst comes from the celebrity roll-call that often spills across these pages. I cant help but wonder what role some of the famous and exalted actually played in helping the author.

For example: I could impress you with a shout-out to Harrison Ford for having taken the time to personally chat with me about the high price of oranges in the markets of France while on the set with him in Paris filming Frantic which I include in but what would that really have to do with how this book came to be?

No, I think I will just stick to saying thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has believed in me, encouraged me, forgiven me, and continued to love me through this process and all my writing endeavors. You know who you are and you know why I thank God for you.
