But not everybody is able to do so,and only those that truly capitalizes on their mental abilities, by trainingtheir minds to delve into the depths of knowledge, will be able to attain duesuccess!
There will always be winners and those that will look up to them inenvy. If everybody were to be the former, then we would end up in a world whereno competition would exist. However, the main goal for most humans is to be awinner and leave the competition behind.
So what is it that helps these winners achieve the kind of successthat they experience in life and what do the others lack? Well, the answer liesin three simple letters, NLP.
NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming and refers to conceptthat allows people to control their own and other peoples minds, whileinfluencing thought and behavior; to attain more out of life.
In this book, we will look at the meaning of NLP, explore its coreconcepts and also see how you can implement it in your day-to-day life. I thank you for choosing this book and hope you have a good timereading it.
Let us begin.
Chapter 1
What is NLP?
NLP is a core concept of psychology. It stands for Neuro LinguisticProgramming.
NLP was first introduced in 1970 by Richard Brandler and John Grinder. Grinder, a linguistics expert and Brandler an author, explored the dimensions of human psychology in terms of mind andbehavior control.
They were some of the first ones to tell humans that it is possibleto attain more from life by making use of both sides of the brain. They aresaid to have been heavily influenced by the work of psychologists Virginia Satir , Milton Erickson and Fritz Perls .
In fact, Brandler closely worked with Perls and Satir to come up withthe different ideologies of NLP.
NLP mainly deals with people capitalizing on their brainpower anddoing more by tapping into their complete mental capacity.
I know it sounds a bit complex but it is actually quite easy. Youhave to first understand the basic concept and then go about exploiting it.Through the course of this book, we will look at how you can do so with ease.
Through extensive study or educated people, Brandler and Grinder found that despite having similar educational backgrounds, somepeople were able to exploit their education and do more in their life whereassome were unable to put it to good use and would end up failing at finishingthe task at hand.
This made them realize that having good education alone was nothelping these people succeed and there was something more that was allowingthem to forge ahead. They decided to investigate and find out what really setthese successful people apart and what extra they possessed that helped themget to where they were.
Once they were done with their research, they were surprised toknow that the successful people had a different way of communicating withothers, which helped them succeed better. The ones that were not succeeding asmuch were not able to communicate with others well enough. So, they decided tocompile a set of rules that would allow people to communicate better and thusthe concepts of NLP were formed.
What sets NLP apart from the rest of the concepts that are outthere is the fact that it mainly deals with focusing on the solution as opposedto the problem. Many psychologists spend a lot of time listening to a personsproblems and make a big deal out of trying to analyze and present theseproblems. However, NLP will focus on the solution and come up with a feasibleone that help the person implement it with ease.
NLP is a concept where people make use of the information that theyhave and try to apply it practically in the different real life situations thatthey come across on a daily basis. As you know, everybody is required to takefull advantage of their education and that can be done through theimplementation of NLP. Communication is a key aspect and NLP teaches people toboth communicate internally with themselves and also externally with theoutside world.
The concept is generally taught by experts who have extensiveknowledge on the subject. Many schools and colleges now make use of NLP toteach students and help them understand how they can use their existingknowledge and put it to good use.
Problem solving is one of the main implementations of NLP. It isnot limited to looking at the issue through a single viewpoint and deals withanalyzing it through several different viewpoints before arriving at a feasiblesolution. It is about expanding the horizons of thought and looking at thebigger picture.
Now you might be wondering as to who is NLP for? And whether youwill be able to take it up and implement it in your life.
NLP will be beneficial for a whole host of people and there is nohard and fast rule that says only certain types of people can take it up. Letus look at who can truly benefit by employing the theories of NLP in theirlife.
Working professionals will have the chance to maximize their careeropportunities by making use of NLP. As you know, everybody in the rat racewishes to outdo the other in order to be a leader. With the help of NLP, theperson will know to make a quick decision and find a solution that will helpsolve a problem. He or she will also be able to deal with everyday issues withease thereby increasing their level of productivity.
