PREFACE
Sometimes the story of how something happened (or was created) is as interesting as the thing itself. This is very true in the case of this book.
When Karen Leong, my co-director at Influence Solutions Pte Ltd, and I entered the Learning and Development (L&D) arena, it did not take us long to realize that CHANGE and EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT were the two things that scared the hell out of many leaders, human resource (HR) and organizational development (OD) managers. These were the two words that we heard the most often, regardless of the country we were in or the industry we happened to be working with. We found that most leaders and organizations were struggling to cope with one or both of these issues.
Consequently, like any responsible L&D company, we began to evolve solutions specifically to address these two pressing needs. As a result, we were soon helping people to S.C.R.E.W.M.E., that is, Support Change and Revitalize Engagement with Minimal Effort.
The S.C.R.E.W.M.E. workshops became so popular that not only were we running them almost every other week, I also began to write a book on this programme so that I could reach out and deliver the benefits to more people. That book (S.C.R.E.W.M.E.) would have been out by now if Destiny hadnt delivered a twist in the tale and led me to write this one first. That is why in this book I talk about the S.C.R.E.W.M.E. book as though it has already been written, even though it will now come out at a later date.
You see, one day, whilst customizing the case studies for a S.C.R.E.W.M.E. programme that we had to deliver to the leaders of a bank, I was hit by a major realization. So simple and (perhaps that is why) so powerful was this realization that I was momentarily stunned. It did not take me long to confirm that it was a valid concept. That was my EUREKA moment.
So moved and excited was I by this realization that I almost did the Archimedes thing. Luckily, better sense prevailed and I contained my celebrations to the four walls of my apartment. I mean, Archimedes may have got away with running out of his bath (if legend is to be believed) but we must understand that the Greeks of yore probably followed a different set of moral standards. I have a sneaking suspicion that the police in Singapore would have taken a dim view of my running around the streets au naturel, which means naked for those of you whose French is like my Latinrudimentary.
The next few weeks were lost in frantic thought and an outpouring of words, leading to the development of yet another L&D solution. One that delivers the power of Breakthrough Thinking to the way we lead, and are led. It not only transforms our lives but also the lives of those around us.
This solution (the Breakthrough Thinker) delivered such transformational results that it soon became the lead product in our pack, and we were delivering it several times every month. Not only was it exceedingly impactful but companies also loved it because it could be delivered at an affordable price in short and sweet half-day formats, thus causing minimal disruption to the training and development (T&D) budget and work schedules.
With every successive delivery, the Breakthrough Thinker was fine-tuned, becoming simpler and even more powerful. It was from these numerous deliveries as well as the interaction with hundreds of leaders and executives that F.C.U.K. Your Way to Success came to life.

ABOUT THIS BOOK
In order to set the context straight, I believe there are a couple of things that need to be talked about before I show you how you too can F.C.U.K. your way to success.
First, the flippant tone and story format that Ive used in this book. I did this only because most L&D books I have come across are pedantic and boring as hell. In fact, I find that to be true of most L&D activities too. I have always wondered if this has anything to do with the belief that learning is a serious business. Indeed it is but there is no reason why it cant be fun as well.
