T his book brings two traditionally distanced groups to the table to talk about topics they are both interested in and passionate about: women and sex. Kurt wanted to write the book, but not being much of a lesbian himself, he needed to find one to help him. He found Amy Jo, a queer-identified sexual empowerment expert who agreed that the project sounded like fun and could help a lot of people.

We wrote this book as a queer woman and a heterosexual man who have vested interests in helping men love women better. The book is from our combined perspectives and does not speak for all lesbians, nor for all men. Both worlds are far too complex to capture in a subjective book like this. We are two people, each with our own lens on the world. This book is a primer, to help people begin thinking and talking about sex in a new way.

We first published Lesbian Sex Secrets for Men in 2000. The Internet was in its infancy. Online dating was in its beta stage. Designer vibrators had not yet catapulted to mass consumption. There was no Shane craze because The L Word had not been born. There was no Fifty Shades driving kink into pop culture. We had no social media sites where we could poll people and hear peoples concerns, perspectives, and stories. All of our original data came from emailed surveys and live in-person focus groups. It was a different world. At the time, Amy Jo was teaching sexuality to teenagers in New York City public schools, and she chose to use a nickname in order to protect the work she was doing with young people.

Its hard to believe Lesbian Sex Secrets for Men is now a fifteen-year-old teenager already enmeshed in the world of dating and adolescent sexploration. They grow up so fast, dont they? The book has helped thousands of people over the past fifteen years. Weve had so many people thank us for the book. Men who said they became better lovers and better attuned to their partners because of the book. Women who bought the book and read it and then gave it to their partners. Couples who bought it and read it together, using it as a pillow-talk generator. Women who sang our praises because it helped them enjoy sex moreor even for the first timewith their lovers. We even heard from parents who said they were buying the book for their sons.
