THE 12 STEPS TO TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR CAREER
My life didnt please me, so I created my life.
COCO CHANEL
So you wanna be a boss. You feel like a boss, right? You might even post boss quotes on social media. Like, youve always known you have that boss-lady thing in your blood, but now youre finally ready to do something about it?! Well, awesome. Youve picked up the book that will help you do just that.
You dont need dozens or hundreds of employees to be a boss. Hell, you dont even need one. You just need to tap into your inner Boss Bitch. We all have one inside of us.
A Boss Bitch is the she-ro of her own story. She is the heroine who doesnt need saving because she has her own shit handled. I became a Boss Bitch by embracing being a boss in all aspects of the word: first as the boss of my own life and career, then as the boss at work, and ultimately as the boss of my own company. Im a Boss Bitch because I made my life happenand so can you.
Before we get started, I want to make one thing very clear: being a Boss Bitch is a good thing. In fact, its a great thing. A Boss Bitch takes ownership of her life, knowing that shes the only one in charge of her future. She is confident in her power to create a successful life on her terms.
Ive been called both a boss and a bitch (and variations of those words) throughout my career in a derogatory way. But I never understood how my ambitions deserved even the slightest insult. I mean, if killing it at work means Im a bitch, then great, Im a bitch and Im owning it! If being on top of my business means Im bossy, then great, Ill own that, too. Being a badass in your career is something that should be praised, not put down. So Im taking back any dumb, offensive, or negative connotations those words have had in the past and, instead, using them in a positive way. From here on out, Im going to call you my fellow Boss Bitches out of tribe solidarity and camaraderie. I wear it as a badge of honor, and by the time you finish reading this book, you will, too.
