Preface to the Second Edition
This second edition includes the addition of a chapter for HVAC calculations. I did not include this chapter in the first edition because HVAC design and retrofit analyses are generally complicated matters.
Since I have been asked to explain my HVAC methods many times, I have endeavored to do so, now, in this book. In truth, most of the time I am not allowed to stop where I have stopped in this book. In this current world of Performance Contracting and the subsequent savings guarantees I am required to include more detailed analysis of latent savings, programmed time-of-day control, outside air reset models, etc. While these all start with the same basic equations, the applications cannot truly be called "Simple Solutions".
