About the Author
Diana K. Schwam fell for New Orleans like a klutz. She traveled the state, scoured the city, and eventually set down roots in Mid-City, convenient to the Jazz Fest Fairgrounds and Angelo Brocatos ice cream parlor. A strategic marketing consultant and writer, Diana contributes to several trade publications and blogs, splits her time between New Orleans and Southern California, and currently sports a silver gulf oyster pendant.
Dedication
For Mary and Dave, of course.
Acknowledgments
Thank you to the city and people of New Orleans for indelibly and continually intoxicating me with your charms; likewise to their indelible, continual brethren of the Gulf Coast. Thanks to Cate Latting, Kelly Regan, and Frommers, for your trust and support. Thanks to the Fat Pack (Chuck, Fiona, John, Nettie, Robin, Steve, and Wesly) and adjuncts (Gary, Linda, Mark, and Paula) for doing what John Goodman would do, and for always being willing to take one for the table. Enduring thanks to Harch, LaLisa, and Scot. I love the North Rendon All Stars, and I love our house, especially the new A/C. With love to Wisser, Juanny, Stoff, Mom, and Milan, who can throw some serious heat.

Frommers Star Ratings, Icons & Abbreviations
Every hotel, restaurant, and attraction listing in this guide has been ranked for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating system. In country, state, and regional guides, we also rate towns and regions to help you narrow down your choices and budget your time accordingly. Hotels and restaurants are rated on a scale of zero (recommended) to three stars (exceptional). Attractions, shopping, nightlife, towns, and regions are rated according to the following scale: zero stars (recommended), one star (highly recommended), two stars (very highly recommended), and three stars (must-see).
In addition to the star-rating system, we also use seven feature icons that point you to the great deals, in-the-know advice, and unique experiences that separate travelers from tourists. Throughout the book, look for:
special finds those places only insiders know about
fun facts details that make travelers more informed and their trips more fun
kids best bets for kids, and advice for the whole family
special moments those experiences that memories are made of
overrated places or experiences not worth your time or money
insider tips great ways to save time and money
