First edition dedication
What influences the development of a person? Imitation and/or emulation is the highest form of respect and, yes, flattery. To live ones life and always do the right thing can sometimes be a long hard road, yet this was instilled at a very young age. Recently, I heard the quote no depositno return and although this quote is new to me, it resonated to the very core of my being. Without knowing it, this was really the lesson learned from my parents, Eleanor and Joe. Eleanor and Joe were each first-generation offspring of immigrants from Krakow, Poland. During their younger years, they were tasked with teaching English to their parents and grandparents after school as they grew up in a coal mining town of Northeast Pennsylvania.
Dad entered the military and, upon returning home, married the hometown girl who lived just down the road. They traveled to Idaho, South Florida, and Massachusetts before settling just outside Philadelphia to the only home Ive ever known. An Air Force veteran, and a 30 + year employee of Boeing, Dad provided for us, completed his college education later in life, while Mom was the consummate mother and housekeeper in every traditional sense. The lessons we learnedseemingly like the paint the fence maneuver from Karate Kid, proved to be the most significant in grounding a work ethic, kindness, generosity, and moral integrity that has served my siblings and me unendingly. The love, personal sacrifice, and support was limitless, and for that I (we) am eternally grateful. I would thank you from the bottom of my heart, but for you my heart has no bottom.
So great was the respect and admiration Eleanor and Joe had for the medical establishment that all four of their children wound up in the fields of pharmacy, nursing, or phlebology. The oldest of the grandchildren also has a PharmD, and the remaining grandchildren, just in elementary school, have a few years left to decide on a career path.
Catch phrases like always do the right thing serve as the basis and constant reminder that we get what we give and we can do better . And so in conclusion, I am amazingly grateful to Eleanor and Joe as theyve instilled in their children goals to reach for the stars and aspire to be the best that we can period!

Second edition dedication
Why undertake a second edition? Simply put, it is for those who really care about the underlying honorable nature of people who enter healthcare to always do the right thing. A sense of responsibility to the field that has provided so very much to me personally was the driving force for this second edition. Unfortunately, there is an educational gap for sonographers and physicians alike who engage in venous care. Why does that gap exist? Why do providers perform procedures they really dont understand or frankly care about? Perhaps it is a flawed minimization of the serious nature of venous disease, or simply lack of education, or perhaps that is too idealistic. This edition is dedicated to those who simply want to improve, and do better in caring for their fellow man.
