Dedicated to the memory of
David L. Dawson, PhD 19422011
David Lynn Dawson received his graduate training at the Southern Illinois University and devoted his life to the teaching of human gross anatomy. In 1975, he joined the faculty of Marshall University School of Medicine in Huntington, West Virginia. There he helped to establish a new medical school and wrote the anatomic portions of the first edition of this text. Throughout a long and productive teaching career that spanned three continents and almost four decades, he was a staunch and true advocate for anatomical education of students and residentsespecially surgical residents. He was a founding member of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists and a mentor and friend to innumerable trainees. His contributions to this textbook were enormous and he is greatly missed.
