DEAR READER
Dear Reader,
In one way or another, we are all driven by money. Male, female, young and old, we have all been told, trained, educated, and sold the notion that money is pretty important. It opens doors, creates opportunity, generates freedom, and offers us the exciting ability to create the life we want. We all have a relationship with it. Some of us have a healthy one, and others do not. But so long as we live, money is relevant and apparent around us. We cannot survive without it and it is ingrained in our minds that we should acquire as much of it as possible. Because you never know when you will have a rainy day, or just want to travel to a beautiful island that is not so rainy. Good, bad, or indifferent, money is one heck of a driving force that we have to recognize and discuss.
As much as we are motivated to make money, we often do not consider the crucial relationship between what we do today and how it can impact our life tomorrow. Every dollar we save and every dollar we spend has a meaningful impact on our financial stability and security as we age. But rarely do we consider this connection when we buy that car, or take that trip, or purchase that house. We often justify careless and wasteful spending with the notion that we have the rest of our lives to save and make adult decisions.
But I am here to help you think mindfully about the choices you make. My entire life has been driven by a need to help people, specifically women. As a Certified Financial Planner for over twenty years, I have seen it all. The ups, the downs, and even the lefts and the rights. As women, we are pulled in every direction imaginable. We fight to create a career, to give birth and then parent children. Instead of relying upon others, I want you to develop a financially independent lifestyle. Over the course of my career, I view myself, and many of my clients, as what I like to call Designer Bag Ladies. This term is one we will discuss throughout the book, but for starters, a Designer Bag Lady is a woman who is extremely successful but still has fears about money. We all know one of them. She may be our neighbor, our best friend, a loved one, or even a colleague a work. She is widely successful, has it all, but still feels the need for reassurance and constantly doubts her financial stability and earning abilities. It is truly the notion of a modern day woman. I consider myself to be, a Designer Bag Lady and The Money Queen.
Throughout my own career, I have grown to see myself as more than a financial planner. Im also a teacher, a therapist, and counselor who, every day, seeks to help clients, friends, and family with all sorts of money related issues. I have a desire to share the lessons Ive learned through the years, not just the financial education I learned in college or the lessons learned through my professional development. I also get a great amount of satisfaction in sharing my life experiencesboth the triumphs and the mistakesin the hope that others will benefit from them, as well. In my mind, thats how the world turns. Sharing our experiences helps us to all become our best while learning to live a more authentic life.
