There are a lot of terms, drug classifications, and other information to memorize before test day. But dont worry, REA has designed this flashcard book and online assessment tools to help you completely prepare for the PTCE. As you begin your study, be sure to focus on the drug names. There is a high probability that out of the 90 multiple-choice PTCE questions, any medication-related question will be focused on the top 100 drug names and their respective classes. Dont underestimate the importance of learning, at minimum, the top 100 brand and generic drug names. The popular drug names included in this book are written using the Tall Man lettering system, which uses uppercase letters to differentiate between sound-alike and look-alike drugs.

In this case, I used the Tall Man lettering to highlight the similarities in the prefixes or suffixes of drugs belonging to the same drug class. Noticing the similarities will help you master learning the drug names and their respective classification. As you prepare for the PTCE it is also of equal importance to learn the major drug classifications and their associated side effects and interactions. The drug names flashcards include the major side effects and interactionsbut not all of the interactions and side effects are listed. Furthermore, a lot of drugs have many off-label uses, but for our purposes it is important to be familiar with the primary uses of the drugs. When you take the PTCE, I recommend that you take your time and read all the answer choices carefully.

Flag any questions youre unsure of. Review these questions if you have additional time. Do not leave any questions unanswered. If you absolutely cannot figure out a question, make an educated guess. Use any remaining time to review all your answers. If you are comfortable with all the topics covered in this flashcard book there is no reason why you cant pass the PTCE.
