A wild summer thunderstorm had swept Yosemite Valley the night before. Hail crashed down around my tent while the intervals between lightning and thunder had been a handful of milliseconds. A cool west wind swept in behind the storm system the next morning as I found myself following the Pohono Trail along the spine of Yosemite Valleys southern rim. Early morning light filtered through the boughs of red firs and sugar pines as a chorus of birds sent delicate tendrils of sound reverberating through the cavernous forest.
