A Game Unlike
Any Other

Are you already a Fortnite fan? Or are you
still waiting to try this incredible game?
Fortnite is one of the most popular games
ever. Hundreds of millions of people around
the world have downloaded it. Many fans
love to watch pro Fortnite players on
streaming services. Others prefer
joining in the action themselves.

Getting Started

One reason Fortnite is so popular is that its
free to play. All you need to do to get
started is download the game. It works on
lots of different devices. You can play it on a
video game system like the Nintendo
Switch, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One. You can
also use a smartphone, tablet, or PC.

A Look at the
Lobby

One of the first things you will see after
starting Fortnite is the lobby screen. Here,
you can decide what mode you want to
play. Do you want to be part of a team? Duos
mode will pair you with a partner. Squads
mode puts you on a team of four players.
And of course, you can always play Solo
mode by yourself.

A New Look

Changing your characters look is a big part of the fun in
Fortnite . You can unlock new skins and other items as you play.
Select Locker from the lobby screen to choose what your
character looks like.

Dropping In

Select Play! on the lobby screen to start a
match. Each Fortnite match starts with your
character aboard the flying Battle Bus. Far
below is the huge island where the action
happens. You can choose where you want to
land on the island. Jump out of the bus when
you are ready. Then guide your character
where you want to go.

Gathering Gear

After you land, you need to find some gear.
Weapons help you defeat enemies. Shields
let your character take more damage when
fighting. Other items give you special
abilities. You wont have any items at the
start of a match. You have to scavenge for
everything on the island. Items can be
found almost anywhere you look.

Breaking
Through

Youll also need to gather plenty of building
materials . There are three kinds: wood,
stone, and metal. Start by equipping your
characters pickaxe. Then simply swing it at
anything you see. You can chop down trees.
You can break apart cars and knock down
walls. Every time you break something, it
will give you building materials.

Right on Target

A small circle will pop up when you start swinging your pickaxe.
Try to aim at it as you swing. Youll get extra building materials if
you hit it.

Building a Base

Building is an important part of Fortnite . You
can use the materials you gathered to make
walls, floors, roofs, and ramps. Use them to
give yourself cover from attacks. Or build
towers to get above enemies. Or use them
to help you climb mountains. The
possibilities are endless. Try to practice
building quickly. You need to move very fast
if you want to build during a fight!

Head-to-Head
Action

Sooner or later, you will run into enemy
players. Try to surprise other players if you
spot them before they see you. Attack from
behind or from the sides. Better yet, try to
get above enemies by climbing or building.
Use different weapons in different
situations. Shotguns are good up close.
Sniper rifles are great from far away.

The Shrinking
Circle

You might notice a big circle on your map when
you start a match. This circle gets smaller as the
match goes on. You need to stay inside of it.
Your character will take damage if you get
caught outside the circle. The longer you can
avoid being defeated, the higher you will place
in a match. Good luck!

Dont Give Up!

You might not win your very first match of Fortnite . Thats OK!
You will get better the more you play. The very best players
spend a lot of time practicing.
