Preface to the
Third Edition
Since publication of The DHEA Breakthrough in September 1996, Ive had the opportunity to speak with hundreds of readers, by phone, fax, modem, radio and TV call-ins, and in person. On my last cross-country flight, the seat next to me was a revolving door of people wanting to share their stories and ask their questions. Its been an incredibly rewarding experience because events have turned out exactly as I predicted.
By that I mean that the people who read the book and followed the DHEA plan have experienced remarkable results. A mother of four in New Orleans told me that she was back in shape and down to her pre-childbirth weight after feeling beaten down for fifteen years. An airline pilot stopped drinking ten cups of coffee a day, saw his blood pressure drop to normal, and felt like a new man. A Los Angeles woman in her mid-forties started on the DHEA plan and in two months had dropped four dress sizes, got off antidepressants, and was feeling better than she had since high school. A 61-year-old man told me of going from impotence and depression to vitality and sexual vigor in ninety days. And the DHEA plan also gave his 92-year-old father a new lease on life.
One element was common to all of these experiences: a feeling of vitality and strength that made all the difference. As you read the following chapters, try not to treat the material simply as information. Take time to imagine what the benefits and blessings that I describe would mean for you in your life. That will make the book more meaningful, more motivating, and even more rewarding for you.
I am continually amazed at peoples ability to make significant changesat the resilience of the human body and mind. And the experience of writing this book has reinforced my belief that anyone can turn their life around.
Obviously, its not as easy as just taking DHEA. You will be frequently reminded in the following pages that the breakthrough here is a program, not a pill. And thats precisely why it works so well. The magic bullet approach has never worked, but the DHEA plan will, and you can start to experience the benefits in a matter of days.
That means the DHEA plan is self-perpetuating. As your metabolic efficiency improves, youll experience greater energy. With greater energy, youll enjoy being more active. With activity, youll gain fitness; and with fitness, strength. No one will be standing over you shaking a finger. Your motivation and your desire will naturally move you forward. Youll see what life is like on what I call the upward spiral.
Of course, I also predicted that DHEA would become a fad, and a trip to your local health food store will confirm that. You will find DHEA that has been micronized, emulsified, activated, pre-digested, and potentized. The good news is that this book will guide you through the maze of hype and hoopla to the simple, scientific truth.
And speaking of science, important research published since the second edition continues to support the careful strategy presented in The DHEA Breakthrough. In fact, a recent editorial in the prestigious Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism states that: Logic pleads in favor of oral administration of DHEA at a dose that provides so-called young DHEA levels in the blood.
Every day we make choices, and the sum of those choices creates our life. I encourage you to consider that this book may be in your hands for a very good reason. The DHEA Breakthrough may provide the tools and information you need to create the kind of life you want a long life filled with joy and the fulfillment of your highest goals. I look forward to hearing your success story.
