INTRODUCTION
Hello, dear crochet friend, and welcome to the world of Crochet Little Heroes. In the pages of this book, you will find everything you need to recreate twenty iconic heroes with colorful yarns and a crochet hook. In the Projects section, you will meet the twenty incredible women and men who have been chosen from the many contemporary and present-day heroes I admire. During the process of creating these dolls, I got to know every one of them on a deeper level. I became familiar not only with their art, inspiration, or creativity, but also their struggles in life, and the hard work it has taken to overcome them. Ive had my personal favorites, my own heroes among them, long before writing this bookbut during the months I focused on these amazing artists, athletes, activists, and public figures, I managed to fall in love with each and every one of them, as I always found something that took my breath away.

From Josephine Bakers unwavering bravery during World War II and the persistence of Rosa Parks and Malala, to the pure, inevitable talent of Prince, Frida Kahlo, and Audrey Hepburnmost of these heroes were innovators and revolutionists in their field. They were ahead of their time in so many ways. But what makes them special for me, and perhaps for most of us, is that they all made a lasting difference. In the Techniques section of the book, you will find all of the stitches and techniques needed to crochet your own heroes. Each project lists the yarn type with my color choices, but I would also encourage you to choose your very own favorite colors, or even yarn brand. When it comes to amigurumi, I always use 100% cotton yarn, but you can experiment with different types of yarn, for example, wool or acrylic.

So, grab a cup of coffee or tea, settle yourself comfortably, pick up your crochet hook, and recreate each of the heroes in this book. I hope they will bring joy and happiness to your life and, most of all, inspire you.

MISTY COPELAND
Misty Copeland is a ballet dancer for the American Ballet Theatre. Despite starting to learn ballet at the relatively late age of thirteenand being challenged by her difference Misty became the companys first African-American soloist for two decades. At the age of thirty-two, she also became the first African-American woman to be promoted to principal dancer at the Theatre. Behind success there is often pain and suffering, and it was no different for Misty.

She overcame family difficulties, health issues, and body-image struggles and went on to become a role model and pop icon.
