When I first took the Silva Mind Control course in 1969, I realized that it was something special and that it could be of great value both to me and to the psychiatric patients I was treating.

The programmed dreams technique that is part of the course soon evolved as the most useful technique both for me personally and for my patients.

Insights gained from the programmed dreams proved their value time and again as I began to treat many returning Vietnam veterans who were coming home with what is now called posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Their own interpretation of their programmed dreams gave each one precisely what he needed to solve his own problem.

This was so valuable that when Jos Silva invited me to be a consultant to him and the Silva organization, I felt honored for the opportunity, because it would be a way for me to give back and help many more people.

Using insights that I gained with the Silva techniques, I found a simple way to determine the origin of depression and schizophrenia, and thousands of patients have benefitted from this discovery.

A Beautiful Mind

The first time I met John Nash, the Nobel Prizewinning mathematician featured in the movie A Beautiful Mind, I told him that the origin of his psychiatric disorder was when he was between fifteen and sixteen months old.

Then Nash informed me that he was sixteen months old in October 1929. Thats when the stock market crashed, and people who had invested heavily, especially with borrowed money, were wiped out financially. Many people were so distraught they were jumping off rooftops. Mothers were so upset that their babies felt abandoned.

Schizophrenia and depression are just delayed posttraumatic stress disorders from infancy. The onset of Nashs schizophrenia came when he was in college and a woman he was attracted to rejected him.

A separation from mother trauma during infancy is more overwhelming than war trauma is to a soldier. Later, a separation from a girlfriend or boyfriend can precipitate a flashback to the earlier time, and the individual shifts back to the mind, reality, feelings, behavior, chemistry, physiology, body movements, level of affective expression, and anatomic sites in their brain that were active and developing in that precise moment of time.

It is the same process as acute PTSD. Instead of a loud noise, it is a separation from some other most important person that precipitates the initial step back in time. When that happens, the person shifts to using the area of brain that they were using at that age.
