Introduction

As we walked the teeming streets of Hong Kong in the middle of high summer, the utterly damp heat felt like a weighted vest. Sweat drained from nearly every pore. My drenched shirt clung to my belly and the small of my back revealing to the world around us the contours of my middle-aged body in decline.

To my forty-four-year-old selfs horror, my teenage son, taking notice, began loudly chanting, Daaaaad Bod! Daaaad Bod! for all to hear. He thought he was hilarious. I thought, My God, hes right. But the mocking of my son served as the wake-up call I needed.

Today, two years later, at age forty-six, I can honestly say that I am ripped. I am literally in the best shape of my life. I have a six-pack and guns. My waist measures in at forty-five percent of my height. I keep up with all but the fittest 20-somethings in the gym. Just the other day, a professional bodybuilder at the gym I work out at asked me when I was going to start competing. How did I do it? More importantly, how can you do it?
