Preface
T he main purpose of this text is to provide knowledge and a better understanding of global health and health care with its related policies and issues. As stated by the Institute of Medicine in Americas Vital Interest in Global Health (2012), The failure to engage in the fight to anticipate, prevent and ameliorate global health problems would diminish Americas stature in the realm of health and jeopardize our own health, economy, and national security (p. 1). One cannot argue the need to have a global perspective, and many have stated this need eloquently. As Kofi Annan, Ghanaian diplomat, seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations, and 2001 Nobel Peace Prize recipient noted, It has been said that arguing against globalization is like arguing against the law of gravity. He also related, [W]e have different religions, different languages, different colored skin, but we all belong to one human race.
