THE BEGINNING OF A JOURNEY
We all age. Some will approach this process gracefully, and some may try to cling to youth for as long as they can, but no matter how we feel, aging is inevitable, and it will happen to everyone. It is an undeniable truth of the world we live in. Moreover, with aging comes a set of consequences that we must deal with:
Our muscle mass grows more and more depleted with each day.
I am a strong advocate of being proud of who you are and being comfortable with yourself, but that doesn't mean you have to roll over and accept your fate. We carve our own paths in life, and the process of aging cannot even come close to stopping that. All it takes is the ability to put your effort in to counteract these laws of nature. I am here to help you fight back and take control of your life.
I once had a friend, Clara, who was in her 30s. She had just gotten married to a man named James, a widower, who had two kids from his late wife, and was in his early 50s. James and Clara had fallen in love at first sight when they met at one of my friend's parties. Although there were over 15 years between them, you could tell they had a real connection. It was obvious. They began dating and decided to further their love life by getting married. Before their marriage, they started having problems in the bedroom, with James stating he wasn't "in the mood." My friend Clara is a charming and patient person, so she waited for him in hopes of this phase passing. A few months went past into their dry marriage. Clara, in desperation, began contemplating seeing her ex again (this was a guy who maltreated her), not for any reason other than sex. James couldn't satisfy her sexually. He had taken a look in the mirror and didn't like what he saw. He felt inadequate in bed because he was acutely aware of the age gap and its effects on his body. He thought this made him unattractive to Clara, this was not how Clara felt, but these thoughts had already sunk their claws deep into James's mind.
A fatal miscommunication as Clara assumed it was his loss of lust for her. What she couldn't get in James, she sought once more in Dan, her ex. We got talking one day, and she opened up to me about her dilemma. I understood the situation well, A straightforward problem to solve, I told her. I asked for her permission to intervene. I got close to James, invited him to some of my workout sessions, got him involved in regular training. Over time James's attitude shifted; he grew confident enough to look himself in the mirror and be proud of the man he saw looking back at him. This confidence transitioned smoothly into a great sexual relationship with his partner. He could now express to Clara his previous concerns about his body because they no longer had a hold of his life. Today, their relationship is stronger than ever.
Recalling this incidence gives me a plethora of emotions. Although everything worked out in the end, that problem could have been the end of their marriage. Utterly unknown to him, James suffered from low levels of testosterone which affected his sexual drive and his ability to have satisfying sex. Regular exercise can raise testosterone levels because it increases muscle mass. The increase in muscle mass can lead to more testosterone in the body. Testosterone and many other aspects are why it is so essential to practice strength training as you get older, and this is why it is my dream to get you there.
There are so many men out there like James battling the loss of muscle mass as they age, a buildup of fat, and loss of strength, making the discharge of their daily activities challenging. It can be highly frustrating when your lack of fitness prevents you from doing things you used to do effortlessly. Unfortunately, some think their age restricts them from losing fat or gaining muscles; they believe they are too old to start exercising. Factually, regardless of your age, you need to stay fit, and I would go so far as to say it's way more important in the later years of your life than ever before.
You are not too old to hit the gym. No matter your age, you need to stay fit at all times because it is imperative to your mental and physical health. The older you get, the more challenging it becomes for you to deal with daily activities, and it gets worse when you do not have a lifestyle of fitness. There are some misconceptions about the types of fitness exercises that people between 50 and 70 can get involved in. According to the design of our bodies, as you get older, fitness may not be concentrated on long hours of training to chisel the abs out. Instead, the workouts I teach focus on helping you stay fit and mitigating the risks of suffering cardiovascular diseases. While still building muscle mass and increasing your balance. When you get to 50 and above, it is vital to cognizance your health, strength, and fitness.
