Preface
The high rate of industrialization and urbanization has led to extreme ecological disturbances and deprivation of natural resources. The orthodox practices in industrial and agricultural sectors have produced large amounts of hazardous wastes which cause water, air, and soil pollution, devastating human health and the environment. Most of the pollutants have been identified as major sources of environment and health hazards due to their high levels of toxicity. Existing conventional treatment techniques employ expensive chemical methods; however, these methods are disagreeable from both economic and environmental viewpoints. Therefore, there is an exigent demand for the development of sustainable, effective, eco-friendly, cost-effective, and reliable technology to monitor and prevent all the striking environmental challenges. Hence, bionanotechnology can have a substantial impact on developing cleaner and greener technologies with significant health and environmental benefits. The applications of bionanotechnology are being explored for their potential to provide solutions to manage, mitigate, and clean up air, water, and soil pollution, as well as to improve the performance of conventional technologies used in environmental clean-up and sustainability. Therefore, this book represents a study of bionanotechnology concepts and their role in revolutionizing conventional treatment methods accompanied with eliminating or minimizing negative influence of hazardous contaminants on human health and the environment. The realization of smart and sustainable treatment technology will substantially provide significant economic and social benefits.
