This revision has been a challenge and a delight. COVID made some work more difficult but it also gave us each a lot of time to work from home. We welcomed a new co-author, and she has been a delightful addition to our team. I would be remiss not to give my special thanks, as always, to my wife, Dee Davidson, my best friend and the love of my life. And thanks to my long-time co-author, Lynn Forsythe. She is always a joy to work with, an exceptional co-author, and a great friend! Its always great to work with her!
Dan Davidson
I have enjoyed working on this revision with Dan Davidson. His positive attitude makes him a delightful writing partner and his suggestions greatly improve our book. He is a wonderful colleague and friend. We are fortunate to have Nancy Holland join us with this edition. It was a pleasure to work with her. Nancy provided a fresh insight to a number of chapters based on her experience as a businessperson, professor, and adopter of the book. I want to thank my family for their patience, love, and support, especially Jim and Mike Poptanich, and Aileen Zollweg. I also dedicate this text to our students past, present, and future, especially the students who have persevered through the COVID-19 pandemic. I am looking forward to the new normal.
Lynn M. Forsythe
Lynn and Dan, it has been a pleasure to work with you over the past eight months on this wonderful text. Ive used this text in my classroom for over 22 years, so to be asked to be a co-author for the book is beyond an honor, and definitely a pleasure. I want to thank my husband, Randy, and my son, Michael, who understood that I had to be in the zone so as not to interrupt the creative flow! I also want to thank my dear friends from W&W who always have my back! A special thank you to Lydia Anderson, my mentor, and dear friend... and to God, who makes all things possible!

Preface
A BUSINESS-ORIENTED TEXT
The fourth edition of Business Law: Principles and Cases in the Legal Environment provides students with a business-oriented introduction to the legal and ethical topics that affect business. This perspective may seem obvious. However, not all business law textbooks focus on the practice of business. Some fail to show students how the law will affect their future careers as businesspeople. Our goal as business law and legal environment instructors is not to teach lawyers, but to teach future businesspeople. The book is not organized along the lines of law school classesfor example, administrative law, agency, and remedies. Instead it is organized along the lines of how businesspeople should think about the law. For example, torts material may be in the agency chapters and remedies material may be in the contracts chapters.
