Murray Morgan has written 19 books, most of which focus on Pacific Northwest and Alaskan history. Skid Road, The Dam, and Puget's Sound were on the Washington Centennary list of "100 Outstanding Books" about the state. Over Washington, his most recent work, has sold more than 60,000 copies.
Born in Tacoma in 1916, Murray earned a BA at the University of Washington (1937) and an MS from Columbia University (1942). He has had a long and distinguished career as a writer, newspaper reporter, and college instructor, and currently is a frequent book reviewer for the Tacoma News Tribune. Murray along with Rosa, his wife and collaborator, lives and writes in a remodelled dance hall on Trout Lake between Tacoma and Seattle. His high-seas tale of the C.S.S. Shenandoah originally appeared in 1948.
