Introduction

Message From The Author

Hello Im Dan Eitreim and Ive been shooting photographs professionally for over - photo 3

Hello, Im Dan Eitreim and Ive been shooting photographs professionally for over 20 years.

Before we get started, let me tell you a bit about me.

Getting stunning images is almost automatic for me now, but it wasnt always like that! I remember struggling to figure out what all the buttons and dials on my camera were for, and I remember the frustration at not being able to shoot the type of images I knew it was possible to produce.

I think I own just about every photo technique book available and believe me, there is a lot of misinformation and downright useless information out there.

Most photo books are written - not to really teach you anything new - but to show off the authors photographs! In this series of e-books, Ive tried my best to avoid that pitfall. While there are a lot of my own photos in here, there are also a lot of stock photos. The idea is to use the photos to demonstrate a point, not to show off my work.

Simple system

Ive developed a simple, systematic approach that ANYONE can easily master to start shooting better photos TODAY!

Once youve completed this training lesson along your photo journey, Essential Posing Secrets, dont lose your momentum! Keep reading the next lesson in the bundle...

Its time YOU put the WOW factor into your photos!

In the beginning sections of this e-book, we will be reviewing and discussing areas that we have covered before. Many of you havent seen the previous training volumes, so this will be new material. But even if you HAVE covered these concepts before, they are so important it is worth rehashing and reviewing a little.

In our last lesson (not part of this bundle) we talked about Building a Portrait.

The Portrait Shape

Firstwe talked about the overall shape of our photograph - shooting it as either a vertical or horizontal shot. (Unless your creative vision calls for some funky tilt.)

Of course this is obvious Most portraits automatically fall into the vertical - photo 6

Of course, this is obvious. Most portraits automatically fall into the vertical shape and most landscapes automatically fall into the horizontal format.

In fact, most cameras have a portrait and a landscape setting! But dont fall into the trap of shooting everything according to the traditional shapes!

This is potentially dangerous to our creativity!

At the very least, by assigning those labels to photographs and their shapes, you are subliminally conditioning yourself to shoot landscapes in a horizontal shape and portraits in a vertical shape.

Dont limit yourselfeven subconsciously Try to refer to vertically shaped - photo 7

Dont limit yourselfeven subconsciously Try to refer to vertically shaped - photo 8

Dont limit yourselfeven subconsciously. Try to refer to vertically shaped photos as vertical - not portrait. And try to refer to horizontal photographs as horizontal, not landscape.

Its a minor point, but minor points all add up to major changes in your photography. Be sure you are using the proper terminology - it will pay off in the long run. The brilliant salesperson and motivational speaker W. Clement Stone is famous for saying; Little hinges swing big doors!

Another creative option we now have with digital cameras is the ability to shoot a lot of photos! It is virtually free! This is a wonderful thing! Back in the day (when shooting film), I used the rule of thumb that it cost me $1.30 every time I clicked the shutter.

Believe me, at $1.30 a shot, experimentation was kept to a minimum. The same with that famous photographers phrase, just one more! I often would have liked to shoot just one more!, but the cost was just too high!

One advantage of shooting digital rather than film is that we can experiment, without it costing us anything!

Take advantage of that option! Whenever you think youve got enough shots, do some more! Try doing it another way, experiment! Why not? Its not costing you anything!

You may get a truly amazing result that could change your life! Who knows!

Want to know what I mean by one photo changing your life?

This has to do with taking a lot of shots and hanging in there far beyond the point when most photographers would have given up - waiting for just the right moment.

Back in 1981 Richard Avedon shot a photo of Nastassja Kinsky - she was nude and had been draped with a boa constrictor. Chances are youve seen the shot. If not, here is a link to check it out:

http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/lot_details.aspx?intObjectID=5123241

Avedon waited and waited and after about 2 HOURS of shooting - just as the snake flicked its tongue out toward her ear, he snapped the shutter. It was almost as if the snake was kissing her.

Then he started selling posters of the image.

True, Avedon was already a famous photographer and being famous certainly helped his sales, but I remember ordering a copy of that photo from a mail order ad and I would have bought the photo no matter who shot it. Truth be known, at the time - though Id seen his work, Id never heard of Richard Avedon. (I wasnt into photography at the time.)

The posters of the photo were selling for $20.00 unsigned and $40.00 if it was autographed.
