    Acknowledgments
    Thanks from Brenda Hampel

As I began to outline this book and decided to reach out to colleagues to talk about this important topic, I wasnt sure how everyone would respond to the invitation. I was pleasantly surprised when each person I asked enthusiastically accepted my request that they talk with me and be a part of this work. I thank each of them for taking the time out of their extremely busy schedules and for contributing their own experiences and successes in the quest to improve the professional lives of the employees they each support and the organizations of which they are a part.

In addition, I would like to thank my dad, Bill Laubenthal. He was the first entrepreneur and leader to introduce me to and teach me the lessons of business. Dad taught me the importance of having a strong work ethic and the value of creating strong relationships with your customers. Always have a firm handshake, look them in the eye, and smile. These are the words of advice that still come to mind when I interact with business associates. Thank you, Dad, for giving me the foundation I needed to be successful!

And of course I owe a huge thank you to my husband, Jeff, who has the ability to put things in perspective when they feel out of whack and for always believing in me, even when I have doubts.

    Thanks from Anne Bruce

It is with pleasure and great appreciation that I acknowledge the people who support my work and make a significant difference in my life and, therefore, in the lives of those who buy my books, attend my seminars and training workshops, and help keep all that I do relevant.

A very special thank you goes to my McGraw-Hill family, my esteemed publisher for 18 years. Thank you to the amazing executive editor and publisher in charge of this series, Mary Glenn, and to talented senior editor Knox Huston. Ive done my best to absorb your guidance and wisdom as Ive traveled the long and winding road of my publishing career. Thanks for being patient colleagues and friends all these years. A special shout-out goes to our superstar editing and design team: editing liaison Scott Kurtz, Alice Manning, Cheryl Ringer, Mauna Eichner, and Lee Fukui. Thanks, Mauna, for always being available for all the late-night and weekend telephone conversations during the postproduction of this book.

A big thank you goes to my friend and coauthor, Brenda Hampel. As the series acquisition editor for this book, for me you make all the hard work in todays world of human resources and leadership look attractive, engaging, and special. Its always a pleasure to work alongside you, and I look forward to many more collaborations.
