CONTENTS
W e spend our young lives in school being trained (and programmed) to become employees where we exchange our time and energy for money. This results in us placing our financial health and dependence on our employer. Way too many of us end up living our lives struggling financially, living paycheck to paycheck instead of creating a financial foundation that will help us create the life we deserve. It is very difficult to create the life you want when your financial success is dependent on someone else and/or an hourly wage.
As Douglas shares, If you look closely, the workday is the foundational concept of trading time for money. In order to survive, we have been taught that we need to put in a nine-to-five day and we need to be prepared for a forty-hour workweek. In addition (and this is the dreadful part), you need to be prepared to spend most of your life doing it.
Instead of spending your time as an employee, I ask you to consider investing your time to buy, build, or create income-producing assets.
Are you ready to create wealth?
Are you tired of working hard and never getting ahead?
Are you frustrated with watching others create great success and feeling like you were left in their dust?
Are you looking for a different path?
Are you ready to learn from someone who has been there, done that?
If your answer to any of these questions is Yes... then The 6-Minute Work Day is for you.
First, the book will help you identify where you are trading or losing your time, and even more importantly, why! Then it will reveal the steps you can take to reclaim control of your life and win your time back through the process.
As part of the backstory, when Douglas first asked me to write the foreword for his new book, I was very honored. However, when I received the draft, I panicked a bit when I saw the title, The 6-Minute Work Day. My immediate thought was, Oh nohe has gone to the dark side and the book is about getting rich quick.
And then I started reading. His messaging is brilliant and so very aligned with what I teach. The 6-Minute Work Day is the destination he has achieved by applying the principles he shares in the book, and he invites you to join him there.
Douglas shares that time is our most precious currency. You can make money, lose it, and then make it back... but once time is spent, you can never recover it.
The wealthy do not trade time for money. However, they all do have one thing in common, no matter where they live or what language they speak. They invest their time in buying, building, or creating income-producing assets that will work hard for them. They understand the power of assets!
You are financially free when the income from your assets exceeds your monthly expenses (it does not have to be millions of dollars).
If you are ready to win your time back, start focusing on assets. The word asset is my favorite word on earth. In fact, one of my initiatives is ASSETS ARE $EXY! to highlight the importance of focusing on developing assets rather than income. And believe me, the older you become, the sexier your assets become!
There are many types of assets, but the main categories are:
Businesses
Real Estate
PaperStocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds, ETFs, REITs, and so on
Intellectual Property
Think of an asset as your employee. It becomes an economic engine that works for you twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. As an employee, the amount of income you can make exchanging time for money is limited to how much time you can spend working; therefore, your income potential is finite. In contrast, the amount of income you can make from assets is infinite.
Businesses
When it comes to businesses, far too many people own a job instead of a business, which means they are still exchanging time for money. It is important to build your business with the right foundation, the right business systems, and the right team so that it can become an economic engine working for you. In my book
