Foreword
I love this book and you will, too! Lucy Beales work is the epitome of leading-edge thinking when it comes to reshaping the body and the mind. Lucy and her co-authors, Sandy Couvillon and Joan Clark, reveal the ultimate principles to change your lifestyle and live in your ideal, healthy, and fit body!
I met Lucy Beale in l998 when I was well over the 300-pound mark. When I say well over, I mean my midriff drifted around my body, covering my hips and resting on my thighs when I sat down. I was not a pretty picture. And I was miserable. I had no self-esteem, hated the body I lived in, and was terribly depressed. Fortunately, somewhere in my brain there was still a cell that believed I could overcome obesity, and that cell somehow found Lucy Beale just like you have found this book.
Lucy taught me to stop telling myself I was fat when I awoke every morning, to start being kind to myself, and, most importantly, to begin communicating immediately with my body. I had never heard of the 0-to-5 hunger scale, and this ingenious strategy taught me to get in touch with my body. After a few months of using Lucys philosophy, I called her up and told her, Lucy, I have never really lived in my body!
When I was overweight, I always felt empty and kept feeding the feeling. That feeling of emptiness was my body and mind trying to get my attention! My body was not empty it just wasnt fulfilled. In changing my attitudes and behaviors toward food, eating, and my body, I became aware of my bodys intelligence. I learned that my body was a great communicator. It always tells me exactly what it wants. My job is to listen and respond responsibly.
The exercise suggestions in the book include some simple ones that have become for me a precious daily gift to my body. Just 10 minutes a day have been enough to help me reach my ideal size and rid myself of a yucky double chin.
Today, several years after adopting Lucys system, I am five clothing sizes smaller and happier than ever. I used to wear a size 26. Now I wear a size 16. Keeping weight off is no longer the struggle it was in the past.
By following the life-changing principles in this book, you will create a loving relationship with your body. You will want to feed your body just the right amount of wonderful, healthy foods, to take your body for a walk or to a yoga class, and to clothe it in something that reveals its shape! This approach does take some effort, but nothing compared to the struggle of living life as an overweight person. Getting to your ideal size is a life-changing transformation that will make you feel fulfilled, improve your self-esteem, and give you the healthy life you have always desired.
Take this book and devour it! It will be the first time in your life you overindulge in something that will make you naturally thin! I know. I have lived the principles in this book and my reflection in the mirror is one I love!
