Its Swampy!

Do you need boots to walk around your backyard? If its saturated with water and has lots of trees and other plants, your backyard might be part of a swamp! Swamps are one of Earths biomes.

Freshwater Swamps

Freshwater swamps form inland , commonly around lakes and rivers. Freshwater swamps collect even more water during rainy times of the year. Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia is one of the biggest freshwater swamps in the United States.

Saltwater Swamps

Saltwater swamps form on tropical ocean coasts. They start out as flat sand or mud, and the tide washes over them. Over time, plants start to grow. They have to adapt to changing water amounts due to the tide.

Mangroves

Saltwater swamps are well-known for mangrove trees. They have thin, tall roots. These roots hold sand and swamp soil in place. Sundarbans is one of the largest mangrove forests on Earth. Its in Bangladesh and India.
