M y daughter Lina is now seven years old. She began to develop the symptoms of autism about four years ago and, as Im sure all readers of this book can appreciate, she has had a difficult life since then. The increasing number of kids who have suffered through similar difficulties has led to a lot of news coverage about autism and heightened interest in the currently available and potential future therapies or even cures. The tips contained in this bookfrom parents, teachers, therapists, doctors, and so many other professionals involved in the fieldare the sum total of an incredible amount of work that is being done to solve the autism puzzle and to help all our daughters and our sons recover from the debilitating symptoms that they are experiencing. I firmly believe that all this hard work, and all the research that is being conducted, will continue to bear fruit and result in better treatment, more positive results, and significant improvement in the quality of life for everyone on the autism spectrum. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you struggle through the difficulties of raising a child with autism, while doing everything you possibly can to realize the dream of seeing that child develop into an adult without autism.
