About the Author

Kathryn Mewes was born in London in 1973 and she lived there for the first seven years of her life. Family moves took her first to Wiltshire and then to Hampshire, where she completed her education.

In 1992 Kathryn started studying at the Norland College in Hungerford and graduated from there with a Distinction in 1994. She also won The Gifford Hall Award for Excellence. From there she began her career as a Norland nanny, staying with families for extended periods and learning and growing alongside the parents. She soon developed a fascination for the dynamics of family life and it became an ongoing study.

After nine years as a nanny, Kathryn went to Australia, where she lived for three years and spent time with many families, helping to resolve concerns they had about their childrens behaviour. Before long she realised that she only needed to be in a familys home for three days in order to bring about long-lasting change.

In 2007 Kathryn returned to London and launched her own business in the UK. Now based in Southwest London, she travels the country every week working with different families on their particular challenges. Her business is called Bespoke Nanny and her formula is to stay with the family for up to 72 hours and then carry on guiding them and advising for the next month via phone.

In her first book The 3 Day Nanny, Kathryn shared with parents the techniques she developed over the years in personal consultation, outlining her strategies for helping parents with problems with children from aged six months to six years. In 2013 she made the highly successful TV programme The Three Day Nanny and another series is planned for 2015 to coincide with this book.

Introduction

Make no mistake, parenting can be a tough job! The moment you think youve got something right, whether its getting your child to stay in her own bed at night or learning not to use a loud voice in public, your child changes. The goalposts shift and all of a sudden youre looking at slightly different issues. You have to adapt to change quickly and many parents beat themselves up about not being able to do everything perfectly every time.

My process is 99.9 per cent guaranteed to work, with consistency as the key.

What I am offering parents

Well, I have news! When it comes to parenting, there really is no such thing as perfection. If you get it right half of the time, youll be doing well. The other half of parenting is what is called life and sometimes you will just have to roll with the punches. My aim is to help you, as a parent, feel guilt-free, confident and realistic in your approach to raising your child. Its a good idea not to set up overly high standards and expectations of your parenting skills, because you will have to make mistakes (and learn from them) sometimes. It may be reassuring to hear that its also important for your child to witness you making mistakes and learning from them too your behaviour (in all areas of your lives) will be reflected in your childs behaviour. That way they will feel able to make mistakes and learn from them in their future lives.

In my 20 years experience of working with families as a Norland-trained nanny, I have developed my own three-day process for solving common problems and issues connected with children and raising them. My method is to spend three days staying with a family to help them understand and then sort out their family problem using the techniques that I have developed. My process is 99.9 per cent guaranteed to work provided you follow my guidelines and remain consistent at all times.

Its not always obvious to parents how best to raise their child and children - photo 7

Its not always obvious to parents how best to raise their child and children certainly dont come with instruction manuals attached! So often its a steep learning curve for everyone. Its been my great pleasure to be able to help parents and guide their children towards a happier and more harmonious family life. This book has been designed to help you resolve any problem that might be holding your family back and get everyone back on track.
