Life of Basil Das Leben von Basilikum

The firstthing in his life that Basil remembered was cold air. A little girlput Basil's pot down on the front door step.
Das Erste, woransich Basilikum in seinem Leben erinnerte, war die kalte Luft. Einkleines Mdchen stellte Basilikums Topf auf die Stufe vor derHaustr.

Next to thefront door he saw a big flowerpot. It was bright blue and on it waspainted a picture of an orange cat.
"What a scary animal!" thought Basil.
Neben der Haustrsah er einen groen Blumentopf. Der Blumentopf war leuchtend blauund darauf war ein Bild von einer orangefarbenen Katzegemalt.
Was fr ein unheimliches Tier!, dachte Basilikum.

"This is yournew home little basil plant," said the girl.
She gave Basil some water. Then she took a wooden lollypop stickout of her pocket and loosened the soil.
Das ist dein neuesZuhause, kleine Basilikumpflanze, sagte das Mdchen.
Sie gab Basilikum etwas Wasser. Dann nahm sie einen hlzernenLutscherstiel aus ihrer Tasche und lockerte die Erde.

"Help!"thought Basil. "What's happening?"
The soil below Basil was moving. Then something warm squashed histop leaves.
Hilfe!, dachteBasilikum. Was passiert da?
Die Erde unter Basilikum bewegte sich. Dann drckte etwas Warmesseine oberen Bltter zusammen.

"Help! Help!"shouted Basil loudly.
The little girl heard nothing. Suddenly Basil was lifted out of hispot and lowered, root first, into a new hole.
Hilfe! Hilfe!,schrie Basilikum laut.
Das kleine Mdchen hrte nichts. Pltzlich wurde Basilikum aus demTopf gehoben und mit seinen Wurzeln voran in ein neues Lochgesetzt.

She pushed newsoil round Basil's roots and gave him some more water. Then shewent inside and closed the front door behind her.
Sie schob neue Erdeum Basilikums Wurzeln und gab ihm etwas mehr Wasser. Dann ging siehinein und schloss die Haustr hinter sich.

Basil wascold. He bent over feeling scared and alone.
"Hey! Seedling!" shouted two voices. "What's your name?"
Basil looked up and saw two plants with bright blue and yellowflowers.
Basilikum fror. Erkrmmte sich und fhlte sich ngstlich und einsam.
Hey! Setzling!, riefen zwei Stimmen. Wie heit du?
Basilikum schaute hoch und sah zwei Pflanzen mit strahlend blauenund gelben Blten.

"Who are you?"asked Basil shyly.
"We're the Pansy Sisters," said the Pansy Sisters in harmony, "andthe tall quiet one behind us is Rosemary."
Wer seid ihr?,fragte Basilikum schchtern.
Wir sind die Stiefmtterchen Schwestern, sagten dieStiefmtterchen Schwestern im Einklang, "und die groe ruhigehinter uns ist Frau Rosmarin."

"I am calledBasil," said Basil.
"Listen Basil!" shouted the sisters. "Cheer up! This is a greatspot. Why are you scared?"
Ich werdeBasilikum genannt, sagte Basilikum.
Hr' mal Basilikum!, riefen die Schwestern. Kopf hoch! Das istein toller Platz. Warum hast du Angst?

"There is abig orange animal in this pot," replied Basil.
"Animals can't hurt us!" said the Sisters.
Da ist ein groesorangefarbenes Tier in diesem Topf, antwortete Basilikum.
Tiere knnen uns nichts antun!, sagten die Schwestern.

"They'resmelly," said Rosemary, "and noisy!"
"That's true. They're noisy and smelly," said the Sisters, "butthey can't hurt us!"
Sie stinken,sagte Rosmarin, und sind laut!
Das ist wahr. Sie sind laut und stinken, sagten die Schwestern,jedoch knnen sie uns nicht weh tun!

Basil feltrelieved. He did not want a big, smelly, noisy animal to suddenlyappear and shout at him.
Basilikum warerleichtert. Er wollte nicht, dass ein groes, stinkendes sowielautes Tier pltzlich auftaucht und ihn anschreit.

"It's a goodjob animals can't hurt us," laughed Basil. "I didn't know they werenoisy and smelly."
Zum Glck knnenTiere uns nicht weh tun, lachte Basilikum. Ich wusste nicht, dasssie laut sind und stinken.

The sunstarted to warm him and the Sisters told him about life in theirpot.
Die Sonne fing anihn zu wrmen whrend die Schwestern ihm ber das Leben in ihremTopf erzhlten.

"Some daysthat yellow circle climbs up above us and everywhere up there isblue," said the Sisters pointing at the sun. "It is pretty like ourflowers. It makes us warm and thirsty. When the yellow circle getstired it falls down there."
An einigen Tagenklettert der groe gelbe Kreis ber uns und berall dort oben istes blau, sagten die Schwestern und deuteten zur Sonne. Er ist sohbsch wie unsere Blten. Er wrmt uns und macht uns durstig. Wennder gelbe Kreis mde wird, fllt er dort herunter.
