Thisillustrated storybook has two sections. In the first part, theEnglish and Spanish languages, which use everyday language ofnative speakers, are displayed together in short paragraphs. Thismakes it easy to compare the two languages. The second section isthe story in Spanish only, so that those with an intermediate levelcan test their understanding.

Chameleon- Camalen
Basil, Rosemary and the Pansy sisters lived togetherin a bright orange flowerpot. The pot sat on a windowsill outsidethe zoo's cafe.
Albahaca, Romera ylas hermanas Pensamiento vivan juntos en una reluciente maceta decolor naranja. El tiesto estaba en el alfizar de la ventana fuerade la cafetera del zoo.
In front of theplants was a black road painted with white stripes. Visitors whocame to the zoo walked over the white stripes when they crossed theroad.
Enfrente de lasplantas haba una carretera negra pintada con rayas blancas. Losvisitantes que venan al zoo caminaban sobre las rayas blancas alcruzar la carretera.
The plants weretalking about the road crossing when a big animal appeared. It cameacross the road towards the plants.
Las plantas estabanhablando sobre el cruce en la carretera cuando apareci un grananimal. Cruz la carretera viniendo hacia las plantas.
"What is that?"asked Basil.
"It is a big black and white animal," said Rosemary.
Qu es eso?pregunt Albahaca.
Es un gran animal blanco y negro dijo Romera.
"It is veryboring," said the Pansy sisters. "We have beautiful bright colours.That animal is just black and white and boring!"
Es muy aburridodijeron las hermanas Pensamiento. Nosotras tenemos hermososcolores brillantes. Ese animal es solo blanco y negro, yaburrido!
"Animals areboring and smelly!" laughed Basil.
All the plants laughed. Animals were so boring.
Los animales sonaburridos y huelen mal! rio Albahaca.
Todas las plantas rieron. Los animales eran tanaburridos.
"I can hardlysee it," said Rosemary, "It is black and white just like the roadcrossing. It must be a Chameleon!"
Casi no puedoverlo dijo Romera, es blanco y negro al igual que el cruce en lacarretera. Debe de ser un Camalen!
"Of course itis a chameleon!" Said the Pansy sisters who always knew best. "Achameleon can change colours to hide. What else can do that?
Por supuesto quees un Camalen! dijeron las hermanas Pensamiento que siempre losaban todo. Un camalen puede cambiar de color para esconderse.Qu otra cosa puede hacer eso?
"Do we allagree?" asked Rosemary. "Shall we call him, Chameleon?"
"He is black and white with stripes, just like the road crossing,"agreed Basil.
Estamos todos deacuerdo? pregunt Romera. Vamos a llamarle Camalen?
Es blanco y negro con rayas, como el cruce en la carreteracoincidi Albahaca.
The plantsstared at Chameleon.
"Chameleon would look much prettier with some colour," said thePansy sisters in harmony. "If we could change colours like aChameleon, we would always choose bright colours. Wouldn't it belovely to match this orange flowerpot?"
Las plantas miraronfijamente a Camalen.
Camalen sera mucho ms lindo con algn color dijeron lashermanas Pensamiento al unsono. Si nosotras pudiramos cambiar decolores como Camalen, siempre elegiramos colores vivos. No seramaravilloso poder igualar esta maceta naranja?
"I know!" SaidRosemary. "We can teach Chameleon to look pretty!"
"That sounds fun," laughed Basil, "let's call him over."
Ya s! dijoRomera. Podemos ensear a Camalen a estar guapo!
Eso suena divertido rio Albahaca. Llammosle.
"Hey!Chameleon!" shouted Basil.
Chameleon did nothing.
All the plants shouted.
"Chameleon! Chameleon! Come here!"
Eh! Camalen!grit Albahaca.
Camalen no hizo nada.
Todas las plantas gritaron.
Camalen! Camalen! Ven aqu!
"Me?" SaidChameleon.
"Yes, you! Chameleon! Come here!"
Chameleon wandered over to the cafe and looked at the cheeky littleplants.
Yo? dijoCamalen.
S, t! Camalen! Ven aqu!
Camalen se acerc a la Cafetera y mir a las pequeas ydescaradas plantas.
"What do youwant?" Chameleon asked the plants.
"We can teach you to look pretty," said the sisters. "You canchange your colours! Then you can stand next to us and lookpretty!"
Qu queris?Camalen pregunt a las plantas.
Podemos ensearte a estar guapo dijeron las hermanas. T puedescambiar de colores! As que podras ponerte junto a nosotras yestar guapo!
"Don't besilly!" answered Chameleon. "I can't change colour!"
No seis tontas!contest Camalen. Yo no puedo cambiar de color!
The plants wereabout to disagree when a woman rushed out of the cafe.
"Zebra! Get out of here!" She shouted. "Don't touch my prettylittle flowers!"
Las plantas estabana punto de discutir cuando una mujer sali corriendo de lacafetera.
Cebra! Fuera de aqu! grit. No toques a mis pequeas bonitasflores!
Chameleon, theZebra, turned to go. As he went, his tail swished and knocked thelittle orange flowerpot off the windowsill.
Before the pot hit the ground, the zebra gave it a mightykick.
Camalen, la Cebra,se dio la vuelta para irse. Cuando se marchaba, su rabo se agit ygolpe la pequea maceta naranja fuera del alfizar de laventana.
Antes de que la maceta cayera al suelo, la cebra le dio unapoderosa coz.
The pot andflowers flew through the air and landed in the middle of theroad.
A car rushed towards the plants. At the last moment, the carscreeched to a stop and out jumped a zookeeper.
La maceta y lasflores volaron por el aire y cayeron en mitad de lacarretera.
Un coche se precipit hacia las plantas. En el ltimo momento, elcoche fren con un chirrido y una empleada del zoo saltfuera.
She picked upthe colourful flowerpot and handed it to the woman from thecafe.
Recogi la coloridamaceta y se la dio a la mujer de la cafetera.
"It's luckythis flowerpot is so bright and colourful," said the zookeeper. "Ifit weren't so bright I wouldn't have seen it."
Es una suerte queesta maceta sea tan brillante y colorida dijo la empleada delzoo. Si no hubiera sido tan llamativa no la habravisto.
The plantswere trembling with fright.
"That was lucky!" Said Basil.
"Yes," said the Pansy sisters. "It's great to be nice brightcolours!"
Las plantas estabantemblando de miedo.
Qu suerte! dijo Albahaca.
S dijeron las hermanas Pensamiento. Es genial ser de bonitoscolores brillantes!
