Introduction: Why Wishing Works

T he knowledge that there is power in wishing has been handed down through the ages. Children know to make a wish on a falling star or a passing hay truck. They instinctively see that this is a planet where dreams can come true, and that the power of wishingfocusing the mind at a magic momentcan transform the desires of the heart into material reality.

This book contains secrets for using the powerful astrological timing cycles of the NEW MOON to obtain your true hearts desires. I have been experimenting with using these basic Power Periods to make my own dreams come true for the past twenty-one years. As a result, my life has become different from the way I used to live. I have watched myself magically overcome troubling inhibitions, establish healthy new physical routines, and manifest success in areas of my life that were important to me. Many of these things seemed impossible to create, but working with Astrological Power Periods attuned me to a new energy that brought the people, situations, and shifts in my habitual ways of viewing life that were necessary in order for my dreams to come true.

On more than one occasion I have asked myself: If I were ninety-five years old, on my deathbed, and looking back over my life, how would I wish I had used this body, this intelligence, and this system of energy? What did I want to do with this lifetime? These moments make me aware of the importance of using time to consciously accomplish what I feel is valuable, and to experience those things that I am deeply curious about.

Wishing is really a matter of deciding what we WANT to create and getting clear on our intention. It is more than a process of thinking, however; it involves feeling all the way through ourselves that something is correct for us and accepting it fully, with all of our heart. When we take the extra step of writing that wish down and declaring it at a magical moment, it will come true. One of astrologys greatest aids to the process of wishing is that it can alert us to these magical moments in advance.

For centuries farmers the world over have known to plant their crops by the cycles of the Moon. The Moon moves rapidly through the constellations of the zodiac, and aligns with the Sun (conjoins) once approximately every twenty-nine and a half days. This is called the New Moon, and is that period of time when we cannot see the Moon in the night sky. In America, farmers consult the annual Farmers Almanac, which supplies the dates and phases of the Moon to determine the best time to plant their crops in order to insure the greatest yield. The New Moon is a time that promotes all forms of growth. For example, if you want your hair to grow more quickly and fully, have it cut on the day of the New Moon. If you want your fingernails to grow long and strong, have manicures on the days of the New Moon. Anything initiated on those days will be met with rapid growth: a business venture, a relationship, a creative project. The New Moon is fruitful for strong new beginnings.

Timing is everything. When we plant seeds in the springtime, the laws of nature bring about a bountiful crop in the fall. The same seeds planted in a winter snowstorm will likely not yield results, or the results may require much more hard work and be scraggly compared to seeds planted at the appropriate time. Likewise, being aware of timing when making wishes is also important. Just as the New Moon is fruitful for starting material ventures, it is also a potent time for making wishes that stimulate new beginnings in our lives.

I began experimenting with Astrological Power Periods using only myself as the guinea pig because I wanted to find out what the rules were to best utilize the power of the specific timing, and to discover any potential problems. Later I began recommending the use of these Power Periods to my clients, and found that they experienced similar success. I coined the term New Moon Power Days to describe the days of the monthly New Moon and their strength for making wishes, and the term Grandaddy Power Period to denote the one month each year in the individual astrological chart when the power of wishing is the most potent. Over time, the formulas for maximizing the benefits of these time periodsand the most potent way to word the wishesbegan to emerge.
