CONTENTS
The Survival of the Soul has arrived at a time when so many people are seeking to understand what happens when we leave this earthly life. What happens when we die? is a question I am asked by many peopleunderstandably, as I am a psychic medium who speaks to dead people.
Lately, Ive been hearing that question more frequently, as participants in my workshops and live readings express their curiosity about the Afterlife more than their desire for messages from their loved ones. It is because of such increasing interest that I have written a response in the form of this book.
Saying that I have the answer to what must be lifes greatest mystery may sound presumptuous, going beyond what an ordinary person could ever hope to know. But I dont see myself as someone special to be placed on a pedestal. I am not that. What I write about in The Survival of the Soul was either told to me by Spirit through my readings for other people or communicated through my many spirit guidesthose beings whose presence is energetic and have been with me through my lifes journey. (Please note that Spirit is a term I use to refer collectively to those souls who have passed into the Afterlife.) My direct experience is also of value: yes, I have died, but I didnt complete the transition; instead, I had a near-death experience, and was sent back to do my work on Earth.
I am simply a vehicle for knowledge and information to come through and be shared with those who want to know. I am not the source; in fact, we all have the ability to be psychic. Yet not every psychic is a medium. It takes practicejust like building a muscle through repeated exerciseto strengthen our ability to contact Spirit. To that end, I have developed my gift of psychic mediumship over many years, giving readings to individuals and large audiences (and on television) at locations all over the world. But most of all, Ive learned that I always have to believe in myself.
How I came to my unique profession is a story I recount in my first book, Life Among the Dead. As a child I frequently saw and spoke to spirits, but I learned to hide what I eventually called my gift, because people around me thought I was strange and were frightened by my ability to see dead people. Although my maternal grandmother, Frances Glazebrook, also worked as a medium, I had little contact with her as a child. Even so, when I was a teenager she told me that Id be onstage in front of thousands of people doing what she called her work.
When I did start to do readings professionally, I was shocked by how popular they were, but I never thought of becoming famous or going on TV. I was happy giving private readings daily and helping people on their journeys in life. Then about six years ago, I was working as a medium in the front room of my home in Redditch, England, when I was given an opportunity to go to Los Angeles for an extended period of time. This was made possible through a friend for whom Id given a reading, and he encouraged me to take the time off and explore what L.A. was about. That trip changed my life.
