Page vii Preface For years, cooks across the Midwest have clipped recipes from The Des Moines Register. Tattered and stained from use, these recipes have been copied and shared and sometimes lost. But here they are again, all together and updated for the nineties. It doesn't matter if you're a budding gourmet or just an everyday cook, you'll find recipes here to make gatherings with family and friends memorable. We've included some vignettes written by Carol McGarvey, who relates some of her interesting experiences as a longtime food writer and columnist for the Register. Take some time to browse through the bookthe recipes range from the simple to the sublime, from Artichoke Rumakis to Luscious Lemon Treat.
