Every time I visit Chicago, I look forward to going! COMMON , HIP-HOP ARTIST AND ACTOR I used to think a hamburger in a Range Rover beat a salad in a Prius. Now I crave Karyns kale salad with Caesar dressing and vegan crab cakes in taxi cabs. I never thought eating vegan and raw food could taste this good, but the real addiction isnt the flavor; its the way Karyns food makes you feel. ORLANDO JONES , ACTOR AND COMEDIAN I first decided I loved being vegan when I met Karyn. The things she talked to me about and the food she cooked convinced me Im never going back to eating meat. JERMAINE DUPRI , PRODUCER, RAPPER, AND SONGWRITER I had the most extraordinary chicken dish at Karyns Chicago restaurant and it wasnt even chicken! It was a testament to the breadth of Karyns talent, the creativity she uses in presenting her food, and the depth of her commitment to superior nutrition for all of us.
Bravo! DELROY LINDO , ACTOR SOAK

Even doctors are getting on board, touting the benefits of a plant-based diet for their patients. Books like The China Study and documentaries like Forks Over Knives have presented scientific proof that the human body can heal itself from illnesses both major and minor by eliminating meat, fish, chicken, and dairy products. But I could have told you that a long time agomore than forty years ago, actuallyback in the dark ages of vegetarianism and veganism when I felt like the only person on the planet juicing wheatgrass and pressing tofu. So how did I get so ahead of the curve? Well, Ive always considered myself a trendsetter (you should see my closet), but veganism found me as much as I found it. My journey started when I was in my twenties and my mother was diagnosed with cancer. She started juicing and eating a cleaner diet as part of her healing process, and I joined her for moral support.
To my surprise, I soon saw an improvement in allergies and skin conditions that had plagued me for most of my life. My mother succumbed to illness as her body became too weak to overpower the negative effects of chemotherapy, but her influence forever changed the way I treat my body. Over time, I transitioned from the standard American diet to vegetarianism to veganism and eventually to a raw vegan diet, and I felt better and better along each step of the way. On my journey, I met several influential teachers who taught me the benefits of raw vegan food and detoxification. Soon I realized that my allergies were gone, my skin was clear, my energy was through the roof, and I felt more alive and vibrant at thirty than I did at twenty. Holistic nutrition made such a huge impact on my life and health that I started sharing my knowledge with anyone who would listen.
I eventually built a business around vegan food and detoxification. I feel so fortunate to have been led down this path. Although it certainly hasnt been the path of least resistance, it has kept me out of doctors offices, hospitals, pharmacies, and drug stores for the past forty years. Now that Im in my sixties, I am witnessing my peers degenerate and develop diseases as they succumb to the effects of many years of unhealthful eating, smoking, drinking, and chemical overload. For me, aging has been a graceful process; I have gone through menopause with no symptoms, stayed away from Botox and surgery, and look and feel years younger than my age. I promise you, though, I am not special.
