ABOUT THE AUTHORS Brian and Nick Wolfe have been painting faces professionally for twelve years. Influenced by comic books, movies, fantasy, fine art and anatomy, they perfected their craft in major theme parks, haunted attractions, fairs and festivals. Now their work appears in books, magazines, television and movies. The twins teach their art at trade shows, conventions and in private homes all around the world. They have studied techniques and theories behind the creative process, and new age, self-help and quantum physics books have influenced their philosophies. They are quick with a smile and find the good in everyone and every situation.
They describe their workshops as spiritual healing classes with a face-painting gimmick and are the current world champion brush and sponge bodypainters. When they are home in Orlando, they are making costumes, playing heavy metal guitar, singing or partying with friends and family. They are extremely enthusiastic and eagerly share their ideas at eviltwinfx.com. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS BRIAN would like to thank his wife, Dara, and daughter, Trinity, for all their love and support. Big thank yous go out to the friends, family and all who believed in us and the magic and joy of face painting. NICK would like to thank his family, friends and fans, who are responsible for this publication.
CONTENTS DEMOS Whether youre in the mood for something frightening or something more personable and cute, follow along, step by step, to create any character you can imagine!
WHAT IS FACE PAINTING ALL ABOUT? FACE PAINTING IS ABOUT INSPIRATION. There is no bad face painting. The purpose of face painting is to make people happy. It takes an everyday person and taps into her hearts desire to be a princess, or a tiger, or both. When someones face is painted, he may feel more noticed, accepted, praised, feared or loved. People who get painted act differently than they ever have before. They do more than wear the paint on their faces.
They become that princess or that tiger. They are transformed. Face painting is an art form that has no boundaries and is as original as the face that is painted. It is two-dimensional art put on a three-dimensional canvas that moves, sings, roars or laughs. Finally, face painting just makes people smile. And, after all, smiles are what we need most in this world.
So face painting is really one of the most important jobs on the planet in our opinion. This book was created to make more smiles, and most important, more smile makers! MATERIALS You dont need a ton of stuff to get started painting faces. Brushes and paints are the essentials. Paint Allergies Rarely is anyone allergic to face paint. Allergies will usually result in discomfort within a minute or so of application. If this happens, wash off the paint with soap and warm water and discontinue use.
We have painted hundreds of thousands of faces from all over the world and have never witnessed a reaction, but it could happen. PAINTS Use water-based theatrical makeup that is hypoallergenic and nontoxic. Acrylic paint is not made for face painting and should be avoided. Every brand of face paint works. Some have more pigment and brighter colors, while some are easier to wash off. BRUSHES We use small synthetic rounds.
