Acknowledgments

For this edition of the book, like many before it, were fortunate to have an expert production team led by Loretta Yates and sponsoring editor Charvi Arora. Along with technical editor Carl Siechert (our co-author on earlier editions), proofreader Sarah Kearns, compositor Tricia Bronkella, and indexer Cheryl Lenser, our favorite team asked the right questions and made excellent suggestions to cover our lapses. As usual, they made it all happen quickly and efficiently, despite all the curveballs that we threw them.

And weve saved a special tip of the hat to our longtime colleagues Rick and Charlotte Kughen. This book would never have gotten into your hands without their production magic.

He is the author or coauthor of numerous books about Windows and Microsoft Excel. Introduction

The authors of this book began working together in 2001 with the very first title in the Inside Out series, covering what was at the time the newest member of the Microsoft operating system family, Windows XP.

In the intervening two decades, weve done so many updates weve lost count, covering every major new release of Windows except Windows 8. (Judging by the feedback weve received from readers, we werent alone in skipping that ill-fated version.)

For those earlier updates, we had the luxury of knowing that each new release would have a lifespan of at least three years. Thats not the case with Windows 10, which gets new feature updates twice each year instead of every few years.
