As Christmas was just around the corner, the North Pole kingdom was working day and night to make sure everything is ready for the biggest holiday of the year. While Christmas elves were doing all the work around presents, some of them had other tasks as well. Aside with making gifts for children, there were other major chores that Christmas elves had to do. Painting Santa's sleigh with fresh paint, sewing Christmas bags big enough for all the presents and feeding and taking care of the Santa's reindeers.

There were eight of the reindeers and they had to be groomed every day for the last week of Christmas.

When Nimble the elf finished all his work around assembling Christmas toys, he was given other tasks to complete. Even though he loved to work in Santa's workshop, he loved all the work he was given.

Few days before Christmas, everything was in a rush. His main task for one day was to make sure all the reindeers are fed, washed and groomed. There were eight of them and it wasn't an easy job to do.

There was a big, cozy stable made of hardwood with bundles of fresh hay carefully put around the reindeer rooms.

Each of them had its own spot to eat and to sleep. On the top of each beam, a silver plate could be seen with the name of each reindeer.

They were very happy creatures.

The happier they were, the better and faster they could pull the sleigh across the world with Santa and the bags of presents.

-Well, aren't you the happiest reindeers in the world?

-Nimble smiled while raking hay leftovers from one of the reindeer cotes.

Nimble was slowly finishing his daily chores with the reindeer stable. He gave each one a pile of fresh hay, changed the water bowls and groomed each one thoroughly.

-Now, that's what I call a job well done! -he said and wiped sweat drops from his forehead. He started to close the doors of each cote, when he heard someone whispering in the corner of the stable.

He approached the sound and saw one of the elves sitting on the ground with his arms around his legs.

-What are you doing here?- Nimble asked.

He surprised the sitting elf so he screamed.

-Ah! I'm just..sitting here. - he replied and stood up.

-I was sent to help you with reindeers but I'm kind of scared of them. -he said and shrugged his shoulders.

While they were talking, one of the reindeers walked out of the stable.

Nimble was distracted with the unknown sound and forgot to close the last door.

When he turned around, he saw one empty cote.

-Oh, no! Oh, no!- he walked up and down in hope of finding the runaway reindeer, but with no luck.

-A reindeer ran away! -he screamed to the other elf.

-You must help me to find him!

It was unfortunate that it was end of the working day and evening was quite dark. There were dim lights around the stable and entire North Pole kingdom and Nimble hoped he could see the runaway reindeer before he wanders beyond the borders. One good value Nimble possessed was the ability to read tracks.

He soon noticed some hoof marks in the snow.

-He went this way! Hurry! - he yelled and grabbed the scared lf by his hand. -But, I'm scared!

- the elf replied. -You must overcome your fears! It's important that we find the reindeer, otherwise there would be no Christmas for anyone! -Nimble said.

-I know you're scared, but I can help you with that once we find out where the reindeer went! - They began to follow tracks.

It was heavily snowing and the wind was blowing. They searched and searched when they finally spotted the reindeer.

He stopped near one of the frozen fruit trees at the border.

-There he is! -Said Nimble in low voice. -Hurry, bring some fresh hay from the stable! -he ordered the other elf and he ran as fast as he could.

Minutes after, he came with the ball of hay.

-This is what we're going to do. -Nimble knelt down. -You're going to walk slowly to the reindeer while I will approach hi from the other side and put harness around his neck. -But, I can't! What if he bites me? -said the frightened elf and stood up.

-The only thing he eats is this hay you've got in your hands. You must trust me. Once you offer him food, you will see he won't hurt you and you will finally overcome your fears. I'll be right there behind you, making sure you don't get hurt. I promise you.

- Nimble replied and hugged the elf. It took some courage for the elf to listen to Nimble and to start approaching the reindeer. He began to walk towards it. When he came close enough, he stretched his hand and offered some hay. Reindeer turned his head and sniffed the elf's hand.

-I promise...- Nimble whispered from behind, assuring him that he will be okay. The elf closed his eyes in fear, expecting the worst but nothing happened. Reindeer started happily chewing on the hay.

Nimble jumped from behind and put on the harness and walked him back to his cote.

-I can't believe it. I think I'm not scared anymore! Thank you Nimble! This is exactly what I needed to get rid of my fears! - said the grateful elf and even petted the runaway reindeer.

-Hah, I hope next time it wouldn't have to be this extreme!

-Nimble replied and closed the stable gate.
