T he main reason someone should drink smoothies is for the nutritional value. In today's fast paced world it is very difficult to get all the necessary fruits, greens, and vegetables into your body. It is also very difficult to get raw, whole foods into your diet.

Smoothies are a great way to eat more raw, whole foods, and they are jam packed with nutrients. Smoothies are easy on the digestive system. When you create a smoothie you are in effect rupturing the cells in the fruits, vegetables, and greens making it easy for your body to absorb their nutrients. Smoothies include fiber. Our bodies need fiber to function properly and a smoothie includes all the fiber found in fruits, vegetables and greens. This is important for our body's well being.

Fibers contain large quantities of antioxidants. Fibers help clean out toxins that build up in the colon, which then helps the body absorb nutrients better. Moreover, fiber helps feed the colon. Soluble fibers found in certain fruits are amenable to fermentation and become food for the good bacteria living in our colon. Insoluble fiber found in vegetables provide bulk in the stool which helps to move things along in the colon thereby helping provide nutrition to the entire length of the colon. Fibers also helps the body regulate cholesterol and insulin response.

Smoothies taste great. The fruit content in smoothies makes them simply delicious. It is a great way to eat vegetables and greens that may otherwise be bitter. Smoothies are also a great way to get kids to eat their vegetables, since a smoothie is usually creamy and delicious like a milk shake. Smoothies are a great way to get chlorophyl into your diet. Most people do not eat enough greens and therefore do not get enough chlorophyl into their bodies.

Again, part of the reason is the bitter taste of many greens. Smoothies, however, are a great way to include healthy amounts of chlorophyl in your diet without the bitter taste. The interesting thing is that even though you do not taste the greens your body still recognizes them and over time you can develop a taste, if not an actual craving for greens. So while smoothies are a great ways to get kids to eat greens and vegetables, they are also a great way to get kids to eat their greens and vegetables later in life by cultivating a taste for them.

Why Raw Foods are Important

E arly humans were known as hunters and gatherers. They followed their food throughout the seasons and ate raw, unprocessed food.

In doing so they absorbed the food's nutrients in an optimal way, receiving all the nutrients it had to offer. Early humans were essentially raw foodists. What made them raw foodists was that they ate their food intact. Today, we often eat food that has been altered in some way. Eating food that is intact means eating uncooked, unprocessed organic food. If a food has been cooked in a temperature higher than 118 degrees Fahrenheit, or it has been processed, or irradiated, or genetically modified, or if pesticides and/or preservatives have been used, then it is highly likely that the nutrients in the food have been depleted.

Processing, for example, can kill many of the food's nutrients, including the beneficial bacteria, enzymes, and vitamins. T he important thing to note here is that by drinking smoothies you can reap the benefits of a Raw Food Diet in a delicious way. I know that the Raw Food Diet is not for everyone, but even adding some raw, whole foods to your diet will have many beneficial effects on your health. By using raw, organic whole foods in your smoothie you will gain all the nutrients those foods have to offer, and even help your entire family gain these nutrients.

Since smoothies are usually delicious they are an easy addition to anyone's diet.
