G ift giving is supposed to be fun but often times we end up stressed out and at a complete loss. Budgeting, especially for the holiday season when you are giving out many gifts can also be an added worry. But, what if you could make something in your kitchen that would be fast and easy but would be met with absolute delight? And what if creating those gifts was nearly as fun as getting them? Sounds almost too good to be true, doesnt it? Its not!

The following gifts are all created from items that you can easily find and probably have in your own home right now. There are recipes for food gifts (always a crowd pleaser) as well as spa quality gifts of beauty and of course, some trinkets and toys for children of all ages. You do not need special skills- just a Mason jar and some simple ingredients, a few minutes of time and a list of people you want to surprise with a lovely, handmade gift from the heart.

I n the olden days, before malls, strip malls, online shopping and a zillion other places that are clamoring for your money, people made things for each other. Gifts that were made in the kitchen, the sewing room and more were the norm. Even today when there are so many options to work with, there are those crafty people who can whip up spectacular gifts that are more treasured than anything you could buy anywhere else.

Whether you are making a batch of your famous chocolate chip cookies to give as gifts or a embellishing a grapevine wreath, the things that you create with your very own hands are more than just things. They are actual gifts that tell your recipient that you cared enough about them to take time and make a gift just for them.

O f course, you might be making more than a single version of each gift that you are creating and that is fine, but you still want it to have a personal feel to it. The benefit of many of the following Mason jar gift ideas is the ability to alter colors, change up tags and even the basic design so that it reflects the tastes and personality of a single person. Even if you make a dozen or more of the same thing - you can still make some subtle little changes here and there. T here will be several things you need for each of the projects listed, starting of course with a Mason jar. Each project will list the size of the jar you will need although several can be made with any size jar that you prefer or have on hand. For the most part, the jars that you will need should be straight sided without any printing although most of the projects will not be adversely affected if you do not have those on hand. The most important thing will be that all of the jars that you are using be clean and damage free especially for the food projects. For some of the projects you will also need clean jar lids and sealing rings as well.

Other items that you will need on hand will be glue and gift tags. Your gift tags can be handmade as well. There are a number of websites that have printable gift tags with some that are specifically designed for use with handmade gifts. Some tags should be large enough to provide the information needed for the gift. For food gifts, you will need to provide cooking instructions.

The type of glue that you will need will vary by the project. A strong glue that is specifically designed to work with glue is a very good idea.

I f you already have jars and other items on hand, that will be very beneficial to you. If not, then you will have to find the lowest cost resources for your project items. Jars are often sold at very low prices at yard sales, thrift stores and even at the dollar stores. Be sure that you carefully inspect these jars before they are used and follow the proper instructions for sterilizing them as well. Jar rings and sealing lids may also be found at dollar stores.

Glue of a wide variety can be found at craft stores and home improvement stores. This is one item that you do not want to go cheap on because the project may not hold up correctly if you use the wrong glue.

I f you are a whiz in the kitchen but all thumbs when it comes to making pretty things, then stick to the edible gift ideas. There are plenty to choose from including delicious cookies, cakes and even savory ideas like soups and more. In fact, you might be shocked to find a banana bread that bakes right in your Mason jar for unique appeal and long term storage (if it lasts that long). Do not be surprised if you have people showing up on your doorstep with empty jars in hand asking for more of that delightful bread.

On the other hand if you are better with the pampering and spa inspired gifts, then you will find a number of projects that are right up your alley. Dont be afraid to branch out and experiment but when you are stressed and rushed, then choose the ones that are in your personal comfort zone.

A s previously mentioned, it is very important that you give the right gift to the right people. It is one thing if you give someone that they cannot use or will not like if you do not know them very well but for close personal friends and relatives it will not do to give them something that is all wrong. So, no delicious cookie dough for the gluten free person and no spicy soup mixes for the person on the bland diet. Try for the personal touch whenever you can and hope for the best for the times that you cannot.
